The Droid X ordering process.....

I am trying to figure out what is the big deal with the issues that people received when ordering their new Droid X.  These are the problems that I have:

1.  People keep saying that they were "one of the first people" to order the phone.  My question is this, how do you know that?  Are the phones marked with a special number or does your e-mail show that you were number two in line?

2. When I ordered my phone @ 12:45 a.m. I received the following e-mail: "Thank you for shopping at VerizonWireless.com. Your order has been received. Pre-orders will ship when the item becomes available. We reserve the right to limit quantities. Customer signature is required at the time of delivery. You cannot change your shipping address after you submit the order. We will contact you if we need additional information to complete your order or if the item is out of stock or no longer available. If you have any questions, contact us at InternetOrders@Verizonwireless.com . Be sure to include your order reference number."  No where in that message does it state that my order has been processed or that I would receive the phone the next day.

3. When I placed my order I was given 3 options for delivery: Free standard 2-day shipping, free overnight shipping with delivery by 3 p.m. and Saturday delivery at a charge.  Yes, I had to use the drop down menu but how hard is it to choose the fastest shipping option?  Luckily my order was processed on the 15th and in accordance with the shipping option that I chose I received the device on the 16th.

I believe that part of the issue regarding the order process is the fact that people are impatient and they didn't take the time to read for comprehension.  With all of the whining and complaining that I have read on this forum over the ordering process for the Droid, I would hate to see how some people would handle a real crisis.

You are DEAD-ON!

People also don't understand that there are SEVERAL shipping centers.  They may have ordered their phone at 4:30am, etc, but their order processing may have required a Supervisor authorization.  And if this Supervisor already had easily 200-1,000 authorizations to read over and process it could easily add 5-10 hours before it could be authorized.

They don't think about the fact that VZW did not shut down all operations and only allow Droid X ordering/processing/shipment.  Stuff happens.  There were NO LIES, and if they would stop whining and read the order confirmation email they would know that no "promises" were made and the possible delays were listed.

I am thankful that I got my package on time.  But I'd be readily awaiting delivery if it had been delayed, just as I was awaiting delivery of my HTC Incredible for 4+wks before I changed the order.

Sure it sucks to not get what you expected, but then you either cancel your order, call customer service and see if they offer any compensation, or patiently wait.  Whining like a little baby and ranting on some VZW forums get you no where.

Your comment is insulting and you probably work for Verizon. When I ordered mine at 2:00am with free overnight shipping I take that as a business deal a hand shake if you will. I did not get mine because their "automated system" didn't process my payment until 6:00pm that evening April 15th so I fell in with the group who ordered after 2:30pm and will have to wait until the 23rd. I have read on blogs of people ordering at 8:00am and various other times getting their Droid X.

If you think there is anything even remotely fare about that then you are Verizon through and through. It is easy to condemn people when you have your droid. This was an automated machine foul up and Verizon Wireless told me that point blank, so get your facts straight

At the end is not about Iphone or droid is about business practices.....Explain to me how is it that 5000+ orders get "stuck" in a system and no one notice......Why dint a red flag go up when the problem was discovered and the order process manually and shipped...maybe not next day but at least for Monday delivery? Why has Verizon not come forward and said anything about the ordering problems of 5000+ customers?  I will get my phone and i most likely stay with Verizon as my provider but it is the failure in communication that bothers me.

I went through three iPhone launches, iPhone, iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS.  After each order they gave you a firm delivery date.

Not this crap:

Order Status: Your order has been processed and will be shipped based on inventory availability and shipping method. You will receive shipment notification and tracking details via email.

I ordered mine 7/15/2010 @ 2:38 am

I received 4 different responses from Online Ordering customer service.  It is not about being patient.  These companies have a huge problem communicating with their customers.

Just like I no longer believe what comes out of Steve Jobs mouth, I no longer believe what Verizon is telling me.

So please don't feed me this crap!!!

I'm competent enough to realize that there were shipping options.  I placed my order at 2:45AM and paid $8.99 for expedited overnight shipping.  I got an order confirmation time stamped 2:47AM.  Simple logic says that my order is put in a processing queue in the order it was received to ship from the West Chester PA warehouse.  That didn't happen.  The system held up an estimated 5,000 orders that were placed in the wee hours of the morning.  The ordering system would not process them so they were manually added to the system, most after 6:00PM.  I know of dozens if not hundreds of orders that were placed after my order and shipping from the same warehouse.  How is it that they got moved ahead of the line?  Not to mention that Verizon already took my money.

Your comment is ridiculous, and you're only saying it because you were one of the fortunate ones to have their order processed the way it should have been for everyone else.  You'd be singing a different tune if you were one of us.

I did the same as you.  The worst part was my local store had four Droid X in stock.  It would have taken Verizon 24-48 hours to cancel my order and for the system to show I was eligable for an upgrade again.

So I had to wait!

Wait a minute there fanboy!

You say you ordered at 12:45 am?  Well I ordered mine at 2:38 am.  By your logic and nonsense Verizon sold out the initial batch of droids in 2 hours.  If you are on the West Coast, then your ordered yours after I did, yet you got yours.

The real issue is Verizon's handling of this.  I called 4 times to make sure my order was OK, because it was ordered on my GF account but billed and shipped to me.  (I am authorized on her account)

1.  July 15 - Your order will definately ship today

2.  July 15 - Your order will Ship July 16

3.  July 16 - Your order will arrive by july 23, I asked what happened they said I did not place my order until July 16th.

4.  July  17 - You will receive your order by July 21.

As I told every CSR, I realize it is only a phone but I would like some accurate information.

Apparently, Verizon Online Ordering has a tough time doing this.

By the way, I do have a reason for wanting this.

1.  People keep saying that they were "one of the first people" to order the phone.  My question is this, how do you know that?  Are the phones marked with a special number or does your e-mail show that you were number two in line?  -> When I ordered mine online in the VERY early hours of the 15th...then call in another order to CSR...the call in order gets tracking number first, within 3 hours, yet my online order never did....took 21 calls & 45 HOURS to even get a tracking number. Got NUMEROUS "I'm sorry", " Dont know what happend", Never heard of anyone else having this problem".. EXCUSES & LIES !!.. BTW, my confirmation DID show OVERNIGHT DELIVERY.. NOWHERE did it mention ANY possibility of back-orders, glitches, nothing of the sort...

2. When I ordered my phone @ 12:45 a.m. I received the following e-mail: "Thank you for shopping at VerizonWireless.com. Your order has been received. If you have any questions, contact us at InternetOrders@Verizonwireless.com . Be sure to include your order reference number."  No where in that message does it state that my order has been processed or that I would receive the phone the next day. -> Then you must have received a totally different confirmation than I did.. Mine showed OVERNIGHT DELIVERY if order PLACED, not processed, PLACED.. by 4:30pm local time.. mine order was PLACED 13 hours prior to that deadline.. yet takes another 28 hours for order to be processed by CSR when I call about it on 16th, then another 17 hours before I finally get the tracking number.. & AS OF YET.. STILL NOT ONE email, notification, NOTHING from verizon at all..

-> My order automatically went to FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING, so it's obvious that you were on a completely different ordering system than VZW was utilizing in the early morning of the 15th

If the phone was that important to you, you should have taken time out of your day to wake up early and get to the nearest Verizon Wireless store. ANYTIME you order something online, you have to expect delays of some sort. Now everyone that thought they were first in line "online" thinks that they should have got theirs immediately. All the stores had some in stock and it was first come, first serve. I guess y'all weren't first come or first serve.

Except for the fact the Verizon PR machine said there would be plenty to meet demand.

This is a prime example why the option to pre-order is good.

I am just tired of hearing 4 different updates from the online department.

Just when I gave up all hope and thought I was in the group that wasn't getting their phones until 7/27 despite me ordering at 2:33 AM  Est on July 15, I just recveived my tracking info and my phone should arrive tomorrow.   I was totally over the DroidX and considering waiting out for the Samsung Fascinate.  Now I don't know what to do.  Decisions Decisions......

Had mine pre-ordered at a local store.  Went to pick it up, all sold-out.  Told time after time that they would NOT have the same issue with shortages as they did with the Incredible.  Hmmm......

Ordered via phone on 7/15.  Was told it would ship no later than 7/23.  By this time, I'm **bleep**, but whatever, I'll deal with it.

Emailed VZN. today and now it will be shipped on 7/27.  This is getting ridiculous.  I could understand (to an extent) if I hadn't had mine PRE-ORDERED in the FIRST PLACE.....

Interesting though how the the one thing VZN doesn't have an issue or any "glitches" with is billing it's customers at the snap of a finger.

C'mon, Verizon.  Get your stuff together.
