The NEW format for the Charge BLOG (forum) is to cumbersome...JerryF

January 3, 2012

I am going to semi-retire from the Verizon BLOG for the Charge phone because I feel that the "new format"  is no longer easy to use or is it fun to use.

I will still be around but but not nearly as much as I have been.  It's been a great run and I loved being part of the Charge BLOG but in its new format it's no longer fun for me.  It is to cumbersome!

I would like to thank all you folks that have helped me and to all my friends on this BLOG I say thank you.  I specifically want to thank HoustonHeart, BlueVolume, Wildman, Lauren (IBOOGLE), TamaraH_VZW, PJBtheBULL17, DC5_K20Z1, GreenRobot (Gary), Will Watson, and many many others.

For the record, here is a short summary of why I no longer like the Verizon Charge BLOG  in its NEW format.

1.  It uses HTTPS which means I always have to click YES or NO (see attached photo) with regard to whether I want to continue because some of the info transmitted is NOT sent encrypted.  To always have to click on yes or no so often gets old very quickly.

2.  When I log into the Charge BLOG it goes to an OVERVIEW mode that I do NOT like so I have to click on CONTENT to get the mode that I do like BUT after making any post or choice it immediately goes back to the OVERVIEW mode so I have to again choose CONTENT.   Then, every time I click on a choice I again get the HTTPS warning that some of the info being sent to me is not encrypted so I have to click again to delete this screen.  By the way, this type of BLOG information usually does not need to be encrypted or protected by a HTTPS connection UNLESS it is connected to more sensitive information such as your business account at Verizon.  Also, you cannot search for something from the CONTENT mode; you can only search from the OVERVIEW mode...yuk!

3.  When I finally received my NEW password (it kept refusing me) Verizon said they ultimately want me to tie my User Name and password for the Charge BLOG to my Verizon business account so the same user name and password are used for both.  My Verizon business account has both a complex User Name and Password that must be looked up every time I use it because it is so complex.  If my Community User Name “JerryF” matched my User Name on my Verizon business account anybody on this earth will know it.  I am much more concerned about security than most folks.

4.  It's more cumbersome to send someone a Private Message.

5.  In a nutshell, using the new format, everything is much too cumbersome to be fun!  The new format has removed, at least for me, the FUN of trying to help folks having problems.

To my friends on this forum I say thank you for helping me and I hope many of you benefited from my suggestions.

I will still be around but just not as often.

Best personal regards to all of you,

JerryF

I am sorry to hear that, JerryF.  We are all learning this new format.  Are you using IE to post?  I don't get the security errors with Chrome, but I was getting them with IE earlier.  I haven't tried IE in while for this format of the community.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Ann154,

Thanks for your comment because I am sorry too.

I use IE 8 and it would be to much trouble to change browsers just because of the Verizon forum.

I have already "kind of" learned it but it's so cumbersome that it is no longer fun.  If it was my day job and I was paid for the effort I would accept it and use it it but it's not.  Volunteering has to be fun too.

Just for fun, here's one to try.  From the OVERVIEW mode screen let's pretend you wanted to find MY old post on bump charging your battery and all you could remember was the word BUMP.  So search using the word BUMP.  If that doesn't work go to the CONTEXT mode screen and try it again.

Best regards,

JerryF

Jerry, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. Though my issues are different, the issues do take away from the ease of what we had before

B33,

The issue isn't whether it is secured.  It's that Verizon has put excessive security on the NEW Charge BLOG.  By making it a HTTPS connection I constantly get that extra step to answer every time I do anything such as post, respond, edit, and so forth.  You can see my description and photo in Item #1 of my original post.

I think they did it so we could use the same User Name and Password on both this forum and our Verizon Business Account where we pay our bill and add/remove or change our plan as well as our features.  The business account is the one that should have good security with that security warning.

By the way, what is FF?

FF is FireFox, and I am forced to use IE in some locations and do not appreciate the security warnings either.

JerryF, you are correct.  This new forum is H*LL and I HATE HATE HATE it.  It is really horrible.  I don't know WHY Verizon had to change something that was working fine.  Well...almost working fine -- the response time was terrible, but still...

And, I had the same problems as you:  IE7 gives the same "click Yes or No" and I don't want to add the forum to the Trusted Sites zone in order to STOP that stupid message (at least, I *think* that's the place to get rid of that message -- but...I don't care enough to search for it right now).  AND, I got the password error thing on TWO different user names, clicking on the links that THEY sent to me. However, I'm now signed in but I have no clue as to what my password is... it just signed me in automatically.  Ye gods.

FYI, this will not get rid of the security warnings. I tried this, but it didn't work.

For what it's worth, except for this, the new forum format is starting to grow on me.

Hi rcschnoor,

Yeah, it does work. When you said it didn't, I got off my duff & went searching for it.  Here's the text I found:

From IE 7 (pretty sure this is the same with IE 6) access the Tools menu, then Internet Options. Click on the Security tab, then select the zone your SharePoint site is in (for example the Internet Zone), the click the Custom Level button. Then scroll down to the Miscellaneous header and look for “Display mixed content” and set it to Enable.  Click OK and exit IE, then open it up again and see if the message goes away.  Verify the zone that IE has this site listed in by looking at the bottom toolbar of the IE window

Now...I don't know what the security implications are but it stopped the "click yes or no" messages.
