6 Incredible 1's and still no resolution!  We paid for a new battery and SD card.  My last conversation was with HTC who walked me through, again, the reboot process.  Verizon wants to charge us for an upgrade when THIS PHONE KEEPS RESETTING!  Going to press for managers, names and check with my Legal Services to see what my options are.  2 year contract my @ss.  Verizon blames HTC and HTC says they can't control what Verizon offers in compensation.  I'm not very big on Apple but the Iphone with Sprint sounds like a great option if things do not get resolved.

Yup, same problem here.  May be related to signal strength now that folks mention it, it is worse in low signal places.  I was in US customs and phones were supposed to be off and it kept turning on and off!  We've been woken up many a night with the D....R....O....I...D sound repeating.   Grrr...  Annoying as can be and VERIZON tech support said never heard of it, this blog proves otherwise......

this blog isnt read by many vzw employees i would venture a guess..

and when a vzw tech tells you it is a not a known issue it means HTC hasn't reported it to them as a known issue with that device. All verizon does is report to to HTC and what they do with it is up to them

One thing I would suggest if it is a problem turn the volume down so when your phone restarts you don't hear the droid start up sound

I've tried changing the backup schedule no joy. So far turning off the automatic time setting, and manually setting the time to after 7:00 AM  (currently 4:52 AM with reboots starting at 3AM) has been the winner for me. Its now been a half hour and the phone hasn't rebooted itself. I will have to remember to subtract 3 hrs when looking at the time and to add 3 hrs when looking at my appointment times Smiley Sad But at least I may get to sleep past 3 am again. 18 mths with the phone and until 4.08 had the stupid memory issues.

Hi Steve!

Geepers! That's not good. I certainly know that this can be very annoying. I am here to help. If these reboots have been continuing past several nights, then a Factory reset needs to be completed on the device.
1) Ensure all data is backed up prior to continuing per this step will erase all information on the device.
2) Boot into recovery
a) Press and hold Power button, Choose "Restart" option
b) When screen turns off, press and hold Volume Down button
c) When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to scroll down to `FACTORY RESET`
d) Press the Power button to select `FACTORY RESET`
e) Tap the Power button to select.
The device will perform a FACTORY RESET (this will take about 5 minutes)
Once completed the device will need to be activated

There are also applications in the Google Play Market that will allow a silent boot, if you no longer want to her the word "Droid" upon boot up. This is optional and not required.

Thanks,

My Incredible had the magic 2am repeat reboots after the software upgrade. My saving grace? It fell in a river, drowned and died.  Problem solved, because nothing else fixed it. Not any of these other suggestions. RIP Raoul.

I also had the same problem.

In the process of try to fix my phone so it could send and receive MMS messages.

I believe it also fixed the restarting problem

https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/207838

Here is the fix. I found this on androidforums.com -

"the culprit is the Quick Settings App so I suggest deleting it after you fix this. I'm not sure if Quick Settings must be installed on your phone for this fix to work. I reinstalled it before doing this fix.)

Before you Begin: You must have a MicroSD card installed. You MUST have Windows configured to show extensions of known file types! Do not proceed until you're sure you can see extensions of files. See here for simple instructions on how to show extensions in Windows: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=193

1) Install APN Backup and Restore from the Market (free)
2) Run the App and select Backup. Name the file: apns-broken.xml
3) Plug Incredible into USB (or remove card) and copy the file on your phone's sdcard from folder called APNBackupRestore to your pc.
4) Open the file on your pc in a text editor such as notepad.
5) Remove the 2 occurrences of [disabled] - see below for example.

My Step 5: Erase everything you see in the file and then cut & paste the "APN After Editing" sequence seen below. (Click on File and then Save, not sure if this makes a difference but I did it.)

6) Save the edited file as: apns-fixed.xml
7) Verify your can see the file extension of the file as .xml
😎 Copy the file back to your sdcard into the same folder called APNBackupRestore.
9) Run APN Backup again and click Restore. Select the file to restore: apns-fixed.xml - When prompted to search for all instances, answer: NO
10) Unplug your phone from USB and reboot your phone.

APN Before Editing
bolded entries will be removed
==============

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes' ?>
<apns>
<apn name="Production" numeric="00000" mcc="000" mnc="00" apn="1[disabled]" user="null" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="null" mmsport="null" mmsprotocol="2.0" mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" type="mms[disabled]" />
</apns>

APN After Editing
==============

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes' ?>
<apns>
<apn name="Production" numeric="00000" mcc="000" mnc="00" apn="1" user="null" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="null" mmsport="null" mmsprotocol="2.0" mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" type="mms" />
</apns>

=============
Note: If the word "null" is missing after your restore and check the apn again, that is ok. For example: password="null" and Password="" are both acceptable. Sometimes Android will remove the word "null" when restoring."
