I agree absolutely, Wildman is the MAN when it comes to the Droids
I agree with Wildman being the MAN.....along with several others on this forum. (I won't name names for fear I'll leave someone out.) If it wasn't for them and their advice, I'd probably have turned my back on the DroidX...which turned out to be a great phone!

Before people start saying all the crap about " well, are you in a decent area?", "try switching around some of the settings," "maybe it's an app that is causing the problem?" and other rediculous things, let me me frank and clear. It would happen after a hard reset with nothing but stock apps and system settings. And I was in the Military. I know about characteristics with electronics like this and know my way around this type of thing. And I know that sometime unexplainable weird ju-ju happens with things. Hell, I've seen a piece of equipment power itself on with no remote wired in or no equipment around that had it's frequency. But this is several phones now. And I am extremely frustrated and **bleep** off about it.After 2.2 update there was a new feature option under Settings / Privacy / Automatic Restore that has been causing a number of issues to continue to return on several device because this option restores system settings that usually caused the reason for hard reset, it is wise to disable this to avoid this issue... I had one device replaced because of this before I identified this as the issue.
So if I ever need to do a hard reset I need to uncheck the "Automatic Restore" option first, correct.

The best way is after Hard Rest, go into this setting and uncheck this before you activate or log into Google, sometimes you have to activate the "Back up my data" option before you can uncheck the "Automatic Restore"

Thank you to everyone especially Wild man for all your help. I got my replacement today, and I will let you know how it goes. And I am going to take your suggestion, Wildman, and hard reset disabling the backup and restor options. So, I will keep everyone posted.
I already activated it when I saw your response to the gentleman's question you answered. So I am in the process right now of har resetting (again LOL). And I will let you know how that goes too. It may be a couple or few days, as I will be playing aggressively with my phone to see how it is now. Even before the hard reset a second ago, it seemes as though it is at least downloading from the market better now.

Glad to hear that things might be more favorable for you. Hope you find the Droid X to be a wonderful device. And on a personal note, thank you for being in the fire service. A couple weeks ago, the house across the street burned. It was amazing to see how calm, effective and brave those firefighters were. Stay safe, guy.

Thanks again, Wildman (and everyone else). I took your suggestions that I "brain-farted" on and some others ( i.e. disabling the Auto-Restore and Auto Backup settings) and reset it. So far its going very well. Other settings that I have set that may be helpful to thers as well (but you probably already knew these or maybe they were contributing to my problems, I don't know) are:
I disabled my tags in for my camera
I put the Power Widget on my home screen so I have easy access to wifi, blue-tooth, screen brightness, and turning off the syncing and turning off/on GPS
Under the display setting I turned off roaming banner (why the hell is that on anyways? Lol), turned off window animations, turned off auto backlight (that seems to suck my battery a lot) and set is around 25-30% (ish), and set my screen timeout to 1-2 minutes
I have bebugging set and the option to install 3rd party apps
Nothing checked in My Locations settings
In Data Manager, I have Data Roaming disabled, and sync over wifi only checked
Battery Setting to Performance (as suggested)
Auto restore and backup both disabled
(I was thinking about having Home network checked instead of "Automatic". But haven't fully decided yet)
And why does it feel.like I am forgetting a setting? Oh well.
Now I it is still going into 1X while I'm doing something, but not as often. At least now, instead of sitting there, it tries to kick itself back into 3G. I am starting to learn to love my DX again!
And Loydroidx,
Thank you for your kind words. I'm just doing my job. I'm definately not in it to get rich. But instead because I love it and get my rocks off (can I say that here) living off adrenaline. And we are "guaranteed to save the foundation." Lol unless something blows up. But thats an other matter lol. I hope everyone was able to get out quickly and that they didn't have too much water, smoke, and fire damage. I was just talking to someone the other day about how we are really good at utterly destroying things. And that I haven't known of another proffession that we could bust into your house or destroy part of if and they are still glad to see you! "Sorry about your roof, ma'am. But we stopped.the fire from progressin." "Sorry about your wall, sir. But we.got the fire out and we made sure there were no more fire extention." ROFLMAO. Sorry. Bad joke.

Sounds like you got everyting covered and more, glad to here it is going better for you... Now ask for the home network option, I have noticed sometimes this helps and sometime it makes things worse depending on your area, you can always try it and if it causes issues it will be simple enough to change back, since I am using a Verizon Network Extender at my location I have to use Auto because the extender doesnt play well with the home settings.

What does the home network option do? And where is this feature located in settings?
