Transferred Contacts from Droid Incredible to iPhone 4

I need major help please!!!  Just got my iPhone and tried to back up all contacts from the Droid Incredible over to iPhone.  In my "People" (consider Contacts) of Droid - I had over 1000 contacts.  When I'm done with the Back-Up Assistant in iPhone - 32 of them came over.  Yes - a big THIRTY TWO.

I need all the help possible.  I gave my Incredible to my nephew but I asked him not to touch my Contacts yet until I figure it out.  Thanks in advance.

@ngocbe, some good news! (hopefully!) I have a friend who recently got the iPhone too. Aparently, on the iPhone when you setup your Gmail account under mail, it does give you an option to bring over your contacts as well as calendar! Check out the link below:

Now what I don't know is whether it will keep them synchronized regularly. However to address that, there is Google Sync!

Check out the link below:

So if you do find out that all your contacts are infact in GMail, use the methods above to bring them over to your iPhone.

Now you have quite a few options to get your contacts sorted out! Smiley Happy

Hope this helps!

@ngocbe...  although i'm really not feelin the love to help you out (you moving to an iPhone??!!!??!!! Smiley Happy ),but since you did have an Incredible, I'll cut you some slack!

The contacts that did not transfer, were they google contacts, or exchange contacts or phone contacts? Based on the types of contacts, you may do one of the following:

NOTE: I do not know if Backup Assistant backs up just your phone contacts or even your Gmail, Exchange and Facebook contacts. So here goes:

- Google Contacts: These are never stored directly on your phone. They are in your google account. I don't know if Backup Assistant backs these up or not. However, to get them on iPhone, best thing probably would be to export and download them from your google account and import it in MS Outlook or Windows Mail. At that point your lord master (iTunes) will see that you want to sync contacts from outlook or a mail folder!

- MS Exchange Contacts: These reside on your exchange server. If you are using MS Outlook, when you sync via iTunes, these will also get transferred

- Facebook Contact: I'm assuming that when you use the Facebook App on your iPhone, it should show you these. Although I don't know if there is a way to integrate this with contact book in iPhone. (similar to People in Incredible).

-Phone Contacts: These are contacts saved directly to the phone memory. These your Backup Assistant should be handling by default.

Again as I said, I have not used so I dont know for sure if Backup Assistant will backup only the phone contacts or even the online contacts, but the above method will help you get everything moved over.

If you were using a DROID Incredible previously, I would love to hear your experience with the iPhone after you put some usage time on it!

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for replying - I had the iPhone since Monday and I am NOT NOT NOT liking it.  I remembered when I first got my Incredible, I was so excited.  Maybe b/c I'm a google-based kind of gal but iPhone is just not for me.  Maybe b/c I have not learnt all the tricks yet - but it shouldn't be that hard, right?

The only reason why I switched over is b/c it has the built-in language keyboard that I really wanted.  I tried to install the apps available for Vietnamese in the Incredible and it never worked for me so when I saw my friends were writing on the iPhone with the correct accents - I loved it.  But other than that, I do regret switching over.  However, I already gave my nephew the Incredible and it would break his heart to get it back.  Oh well, I'll keep the iPhone for now until my husband's phone is up and I'll get a newer Droid :smileyhappy:

Back to my original question - I did the VzTransfer and it got me 32 contacts :smileysad:  I think I might have to go to the store to have them used the sync cable.

@ngocbe, when you log into MyVerizon via your PC and access the online Backup Assistant to view/manage your contacts, how many contact do you see? 32 or 1000?

Did you read all of my earlier post as well? I tried to explain how each type of contact on your phone may be affected?

It shows 32 in MyVerizon on my PC :smileysad:((  I need to check my google account tonight.  I read your 1st message though - but I didn't think it was all in my Google account.

Thanks everyone for chiming in on this one!

@ngocbe, the response from nimiaj is the correct and best route to take. I too recommend transferring from GMAIL as explained. If you are still not successful getting these contacts transferred using this method, please let us know and we can dig a bit deeper for the resolution.

Thanks,

Thanks nimi again.

Roy - I was on the phone with Customer Care when I got my phone for more than 40 minutes and she couldn't figure it out.  She transferred me over to the iPhone technical support and I literally was on hold almost 2 hours.  Thanks God for headset!  I then hung up and called again and asked for technical support directly - ended up with another Customer Care rep and spent another half an hour with no solution.  I'm going to try to Google Sync method and will report back.

It is very frustrating.  The iPhone clearly said under Settings, there's an option for Mail, Contacts, Calendars but when I choose Gmail - it only fetchs Mail, Calendars, and Notes - NO Contacts.

I just remembered something. Did you check the link above and enable IMAP in your gmail account before setting up gmail on the iPhone? That may help.

nimiaj - You are wonderful!!!  I did the Google Sync and it worked.  I now have tons of contacts again.  I need to weed them out and combine the dups :smileyhappy: but I'm happy I have all of the information again!!!  Thanks a million.

One more thing. Maybe you already know this, but all the "weeding out" of contacts can be done in your gmail on a PC. It will automatically sync the changes to your iPhone.
