Trickle Charge using a PC

All the reps at the Verizon store have their phones connected to their PC. When I asked what they were all doing they indicated that they leave the phone connected to the PC to do a trickle charge. They told me this doesn't cause a problem and will help to keep the phone charged. I've googled to see if leaving my Droid connected to a PC all day will be a problem and some say yes others say no. Any advice on this issue? I basically sit at a desk all day and would like to keep my phone charged but don't want to ruin it.
Thanks

I do this all the time without an issue. If transferring data from the phone to the PC, you have to connect and at that point the phone is now charging

Having your phone connected to the PC charging will not cause damage.
