UPDATE this morning screwed up my motorola droid

Told me an update was available, I clicked ok and this is the black screen I was left with:

Bootloader

2C.7C

Err:A4,64,D5,00,23

Battery OK

OK to Program

Connect USB

Data Cable

WTH?  I've tried turning it off - screen goes completely black, when I turn it on the M logo come up, then goes back to the above screen.  Tried taking the battery out - shows the same black screen above when I put the battery back in.

HELP

Sounds like it definitely borked your phone.  You can try calling one of your local verizon stores and see if they can reprogram your phone or google directions on unbricking a droid and do it yourself.  Otherwise, you'll probably need to wait for them to send a replacement.

Try doing a hard factory reset on your phone.

If you're not that techie, I'd just take it to a local store and have them look at it. If you feel confident of doing a factory reset, go for it and that should fix it.

If you dial *611 and tell them the problem then tell them that you want to do a hard reset, they WILL walk you thru it. I had to do a hard reset for my wife's phone last month, and they walk me thru it and it worked like new. The only thing it doesn't do is any apps (free or paid) will not be on your phone and you have to reinstall them.
I honestly believe if people are willing to take 20 or 30 minutes and have a service rep walk you thru a hard reset, it would cure about 70% of the problems with the droid.
Good luck and I would like to hear how you repaired your phone, thank you

If he's stuck in the bootloader, I doubt a hard reset will help since it would seem like a bigger issue than corrupt data.  To do a factory reset though, you'll need to boot into recovery.  Pull out the battery (make sure the phone isn't plugged in), put the battery back in and hold "x" on the physical keyboard and press the power button.  You should then see a triangle with an exclamation point.  Hold volume up and push the camera button.  Use the dpad or volume down button to highlight wipe data/factory reset and push the center button on the dpad to select it.

i had the same problem with mine this morning. i tried the 'power+X', etc and even finally called verizon. they said i would have to wipe my phone, so we attempted that and it failed. now they have to send me a replacement. of course, they told me this was the first they've heard of this issue. have you talked to them and reported this? i find it hard to believe mine was the first time this happened. only recent change was the forced update i received saturday night. but it worked fine since then, until this morning (tuesday). let me know if you hear anything different from what i've been told!

"they told me this was the first they've heard of this issue."

That is the standard corporate statement, designed by the lawyers to distract and mollify. I see many, many complaints in this forum about the OTA updates ruining perfectly good phones and Verizon professing no knowledge. I'm so glad I downloaded and performed the updates myself but I'm going to look seriously at changing carriers as soon as my contract is up. Take the Money and Run seems to be the new company motto.
