USB Device Not Recognized

Hello,
I recently purchased a Droid Bionic and everything was working great for a week or so. Since though, I can not connect my device to my computer to transfer files. Initially I would get the message in the notification bar to set the device to mass storage, etc, but that no longer happens when I connect to my PC (windows 7 pro). I have read many of the forums and none of them seem to solve my problem. When I connect my device via USB I get a message on my PC that says "USB Device not Recognized". If fact after a phone reboot I get that message followed by a message saying "USB Device has malfunctioned". After that happens every time I connect to my PC I get two message in a row that say "USB Device not Recognized".
Yes, I am checking the notifications bar, and NOTHING is showing up.
Yes, I am using the right cable. I even went to VZ and bought a new one just to make sure.
Yes, I have rebooted both my PC, and device, several times.
Yes, my device is charging once connected to the PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did. Plus I ran the Motorola driver installation to update drivers, and did a clean and reinstall. No luck though.
Thanks for the reply.

Have you tried all the different ports? How old is your computer/laptop? Which version of USB does your motherboard use? Are you using Windows Vista/7?

Did you change the USB connection from media drive vs. charge only.

At some point when I did get a notification yes I did say charge only. But now I no longer get the notification to be able to set it differently. I am pretty sure I have gone through all of the available settings and came seem to come across one to change it manually versus the notification way.

I believe there is either a problem with your device or the plug itself. Have you tried using a different plug or a different computer?

I was wondering if there is a solution to the USB not recognized error problem?
I encountered the same problem yesterday when I tried to connect my Droid Bionic to my laptop to download pictures & video.
Any help would be appreciated.

im having the same problem i think. When I plug my bionic into my computer nothing happens on my computer or my phone. I can't access any files from my computer. I think I may be stuck in charge only mode but I don't know how to get out of it. I have tried this on multiple computers. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi GeorgeDroid!
I would like to assist you with getting your DROID Bionic recognized by your computer!
There are a few factors that could be causing the device not to be recognized. What operating system is running on your computer; i.e. MAC, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7? Are you using the Motorola USB cable that came packaged with your Bionic? The Bionic requires using this specific USB cable to file transfer. Are you receiving an error message when connecting the device? Keep in mind, when transferring files between your Bionic and a computer using the USB cable, ensure you have USB Mass Storage selected.
Please let me know if you're still experiencing problems with your computer recognizing your Bionic.

Hi Anthony,
My OS is Win 7 pro. I also tried it on an XP machine with no luck. I am not using the same cable that was in the box but I did go into the store and bought a new cable that was for data transfer. When I connect the USB cable I do not get any error messages on the device, only the computer where it says USB Device not recognized, twice. Also, when I connect the cable to the computer a notification does not show up on the phone allowing me to select USB Mass Storage. Basically nothing happens on the device aside from charging.
Thanks for all of your help.

I am experiencing the same condition.
Here's some additional information:
- My home PCs (I have two with the same oprating configurations) have Windows 7 64bit.
- My work PC has Windows 7 32bit and works with generic cables
- My home PCs will not connect.
I downloaded Motorola's "Motorola 5.2.0 Driver with MotoHelper" from their website. This did not work on my home PCs.
If I cannot get this resolved on my home PCs I will return the phone to Verizon - I'm still in the 14 day return period.
I'd appreciate any advice.

All USB cords are not created equal.
I experienced the same issues as you did. I talked to Motorola 3rd level support and discovered that the OEM USB cord that came with the phone is slightly different than other cords.
When I switched from the generic USB cord to the OEM I connected immediately without having to uninstall/install drivers.
Everything seems to be working as it should. Now I need to learn how to do the Android stuff.
Hope this works for you.
