Unintended call hangups

When I am talking on my Droid X the old fashioned way -- i.e. holding it to my face like an actual phone -- I frequently hit the hangup button on the screen. I've tried to lock the screen by pushing the top button, but it doesn't seem to work when I'm actively using the phone. I'm sure there's an easy solution to this, but my trial-and-error isn't working.

You would do probally want to press power button instead of back button and also the phone screen should black our when placed to face, try placing finger over ear peice during a call and see if the sensor is fuctioning as design.... It shouls go dark when covered and light up when moved away..
Try this and see if it helps..

Thanks for the helpful response. The screen does go dark when I hold my finger over the earpiece. And my hair may also be a factor. I'll be more attentive to that and hope it takes care of the problem.

Thanks for sharing your issue CCWriter. Thanks Wildman for your suggestion. CWriter, some other things that can prevent the sensor from working properly is if you have long hair that gets in the way or keep the phone far from your face when talking. Try Wildman's suggestion to ensure the proximity sensor is working.

I've had this issue as well. I've figured out that if i'm on the phone for a while it will start to get hot. I noticed that I'll angle it away from my face when the heat is uncomfortable, and the screen will light up. Then when i put it back up to my ear properly, I hang up the phone. The sensor on my phone works really well, just not quite fast enough
