Update killed my phone completely

Anyone else? After the update, the welcome screen loaded, then...voila. Up popped the message that HTC Sense failed to load -> force close...then goes into a loop of loading and the error message. I can't do anything, since my home screen is kaput. Tried with Verizon tech support to do a factory reset, and that won't even work. A new phone is on the way. Kind of sad that one little update has caused so much havoc! Is there any hope for a patch before I switch over to the refurbished "new" phone tomorrow?

That was a OS upgrade and I wouldnt view it as a little update, it basically override 90 of the files located on the device to import the new files.....   Which update method did they have you do?  Was u=it this method?

  • Turn the power off. If your HTC DROID Incredible is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  • Hold the Volume Down button
  • Press and release the Power button
  • You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  • Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  • Press and release the Power button
  • Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC DROID Incredible. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

As for a process to due before recieving replacement device, since you cant access the device it isnt anything you can do but make sure you remove the sd card and place into the replacement device, all apps and contacts data should have been backed up to Google unless you disabled the option..

Thank you for your reply. I actually tried everything that you suggested already. Nothing happens when I hold down "volume down" and press power.  I'm majorly bummed that a phone that has worked perfectly since I got in in January is now useless. Verizon is sending me a refurbished Incredible already loaded with gingerbread, but only a 90 day warranty (vs. my current phone's 2 year warranty).

To answer your question, I got the update via my notification bar, asking me to update the system to android 2.3.4.

So I take you dont have insurance because the time limit for warrenty shouldnt change due to a device being replaced for warrenty..

Sounds like you may have enabled "Fastboot" option, this is the only time you cant access HBoot but you shuld be able to get past that by powering on device and then pull battery as soon as you see the HTC logo and leave it out for 10 seconds and then put back it....  Press and hold volume down and then press and hold power with volume down still pressed until you see the white HBoot screen.
