Update to 4.5.602 problems and overall Verizon issues with droid x

Okay... So I've had this phone since last September when it first came out since Verizon didn't have the iPhone yet at that point, and my previous phone was shooting craps on me. I've had absolutely NOTHING but problems with this phone, and have had it replaced three times under the one year warranty replacement so far because no one in Verizon that I have talked to in three different stores AND through their customer service/tech support phone number in the past year seems to care at all that it never works and that I keep having the same issues with overheating and freezing. Ive done factory reset after reset, wiping everything at least ten times..

So.. Basically I waited for gingerbread like everyone else, and it seemed to work ok for me except for the keyboard lag and crappy battery life, which was tolerable. I had talked to another Verizon associate who had said that the next update, which is now 4.5.602, would fix those bugs amongst others that people have experienced. However... Now my keyboard is seriously even worse than before, freezing and not recognizing keys and typing things that I never even touched! Keep in mind, I don't ever mess with rooting or anything like that, so I have no idea why this isn't working. At this point, after dealing with five different people and three droid x's, I'm pretty sure I'll be jumping to ATT as soon as this one year warranty is up here in the next month. I just need help fixing the keyboard, someone please, so I can at least have a semi-functioning phone until then. As of right now, it barely let's me do anything.

I have 4.5.602, and base .13p, so I know its current. All I did was update OTA. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

And yes, I've tried booting into safe mode. Several times. I've even had other people from Verizon do it for me. Oh and I've also asked different people that work for Verizon if it's me that has done anything wrong to cause the phone to behave like this, and have been told no. So please, don't rant at me for being so frustrated with this and wanting to just be done with it.

I just wanted to know if anyone else was having the same amount of issues with theirs, and what they did that fixed it even if it was temporary.

I see where you are coming from but what amazes me is the number users have a tendency to always make their first post a big blast on a device or the company and the way you came across was like you was threatening to leave the company for another...  This has became almost a daily post from someone in one way or the other when they dont get their way..

Forgive my rant, nothing personal...

Now I have to ask what do you mean you tried to boot into Safe Mode, does this mean you couldn't get it to wotk?

OK, I understand the frustration but please tell me what is jumping to AT&T suppose to do other than get you bad reception? Your issue is with the device and has nothing to do with the service provider.

I really don't get what is up with people jumping off halfcocked and treating the company like this will change things, from what you have reported the same issue is jumping from several devices and this means that the device probally isn't the issue.. I would say it is software or operator error because the chance to have multiple devices have the same issue is highly impossible..

Try isolating the problem before blasting off and blaming the device. Try rebooting into safe mode and see if it stops issue or remove all Apps and then try to trouble shoot the trouble.

Boot into safe mode by powering off and then press and hold menu button while pressing power button, continue holding menu button until device boot with the word Safe Mode at bottom of screen.... Or on some devices it will say turn on wifi..... Try running device like this for a while and see if issue continues.

kag15,

I have had the same problems you have had with your Droid X. I don't plan to get rid of VZW because I think their service is the best out of all 4 wireless providers. Android has GOT TO GO though. I provide technical support for many computer users and have been through the era of Blackberry and Droids and have gotten to the point where I will only be recommending iOS to all users. I have a 64 GB iPad and it works flawlessly so I can only imagine I am going to have the same results with the iPhone family. I will be able to update my calendar the way I need to, delete emails from my custom IMAP server, and be able to surf with some speed and it responds appropriately every time instead of delaying and putting words into my mouth. The only thing I will miss from the Android environment is going to be Swipe. If anyone has seen an application for iOS that will cover my Swipe function feel free to let me know.

Jason, glad your 64GB iPad is working flawlessly but just for the record, so is my Droid X.

However, you may want to check out the iPhone threads on these forums and see what some of the problems that the iPhone 4's "flawless" iOS is having.

That being said I hope my wife and daughters iPhones keep working flawlessly (which they are) and I didn't jinx'm, or my Droid X too..... Haha!

Best of luck to everyone and their phone of choice,

+1   ...  I think "first time" posters would serve themself much better not to go all-hate in their rant.  We're all here to help - but we need facts and symptoms --- not just a ballistic rant on verizon or Moto. The old addage still is true: "How do you eat and Elephant?   1 bite at a time."    :smileywink:

I'm so glad you're willing to help.  Since the recent automatic upgrade, I've had a few problems, such as apps disapearing from my screens.....So in an attempt to get them back, I accidentally saved something to my "dock".  I don't want it there, but can't figure out how to get it off.  I've tried my owner's manual and have looked on-line, but can't seem to find any help.  I know this sounds miniscule to the other posts I've read, but I could really use some help.  Please??!!  I'm pretty much what you'd call a "droid dummy".  Thanks!

Are you talking about the icons at the bottom of the screen?

To replace something down there, long press the icon you want to replace (You CANNOT replace the app icon, right hand side). When the phone vibrates, release and wait for a menu to come up. This menu will have all the apps that you have installed, and you just pick the one that you want to put there.

Another way to do it, is to drag an app shortcut (Not a folder shortcut) to the location that you want that app to be on the dock. Again, you cannot replace the app icon.

There is no way to remove one from that dock, you can only replace.

Did you just sign a 1yr contract when you got the phone? If not, you will still have the ETF after the 1yr warranty is up so why not just go over to ATT right now?

Why did you not return the phone for a different model when you had nothing but problems with the phone in the 1st 30 days?

Good luck with ATT.

Kag15, have you tried installing a 3rd party keyboard app? I don't know any by name, but the search function in this forum is an excellent way to research a topic. It has been discussed before and no, a person should not have to install a 3rd party app because the stock app has issues, but sometimes you have to do whatever it takes.

Then, there's clearing your cache........ keyboard and phone. All things you can find by doing a search.

Honestly, even if I can relate to your frustrations, jumping in here and slamming Verizon and this phone won't accomplish a thing and you've basically pee'd in most peoples' Wheaties now, and they won't put much effort into helping you.

I honestly don't know how wildman doesn't just lose it, sometimes. But, as I mentioned, I know the software issues (that some of us have had) are frustrating.

Good luck holding out until you decide what your next move is.

Smart Keyboard Pro is top notch. They have a trial version available to see if it works. I would check that out.

I also recommend Smart Keyboard Pro. There are a bunch of different downloadable skins for it as well.

Do you use hand lotion? The reason why I ask is that if you put hand lotion on your hands, the lotion could be transfering to the glass and give you a lot of the symptoms that you are seeing.

Every once in a while, my Droid seems to go whacky. Things open up that I didnt press, keyboard does wacky things, and when I try to scroll, I get zoom. What happens is that I put my phone in my shirt pocket, and if I am outside and start sweating, moisture  says on the screen, and I have press the power button, then clean the glass, then everything is fine again.

Kag15, thank you for your inquiry and I certainly understand why these issues on your device would be frustrating. I'm sorry to hear you feel no one at Verizon tried to help you, even with replacing the device three times. From your post, it seems that Gingerbread resolved most of your issues, but the keyboard issues is the main problem. We have seen reports of the issue with the keyboard, and while we thought this issue would be addressed in the software that was just released, it appears our product team is still working on this fix and will be included in next maintenance release.

Some workarounds include turning off Next Word Prediction, clear cache from the keyboard or try a 3rd party keyboard from the Market until this issue is resolved. To turn off Next Word Prediction: Settings - Language & Keyboard - Multi-touch keyboard - Next word prediction - Uncheck.

hey verizon you shouldnt set topic to solved if they (customer) hasnt replied that its solved.

@kag, do you have advance task killer or an "antivirus" app, if so plz remove them and try rebooting and see if it helps, these apps cause more trouble then anything.

It matters not whay you or anyone else thinks, the DROID sucks. You can't forward a text, you can't delete just one message. To get rid of one you must get rid of all. How is that for taking away your choices. I too am ready to jump ship. I have paid too much money for this crap and was told that if I spend just 20 bucks more, I will be able to use another feature that was advertised. How nice is that. The customer service person was being a bit testy. I don't like paying for testy. After 11 years, i think it is time that we part ways. Sprint has a better pricing plan anyway.

It seems as if you have never learned to use your phone and THIS may be the root of all your problems. As far as I know, all Verizon corporate stores offer classes which will teach you how to use the different features of your phone. This may be a very good idea for you if it is available in your area.
