From what I've read, the Hanging after update can be cleared up with a battery pull or in extreme cases a data wipe.

I personally would never subject my phone or the battery to time in a freezer.  It is possible to destroy your battery as both heat and cold will cause your battery to expand and contract.

crb79,

Have you personally had to suffer to this ordeal? The data wipe will not solve your issue. In may work temporarily but in no time you will be stuck at the M again. Trust me, I went through this a countless amount of time with several DXes. A battery pull will work provided you leave it out for 10 ten minutes. With the freezer suggestion, you'll only have to leave in there for 4 maybe 5 minutes. It doesn't get the device all that cold. Both of these solutions, battery pull and feezer, seem to indicate a thermal issue with froyo and the DX. This wasn't happening with 2.1. Interesting that some have the problem and some don't which means there is likely a bad batch circulating that Motorola or Verizon isn't fully aware of because they are still issuing defective replacements

In any case, one should never have to do a battery pull or data wipe on their devices regularly to get it to. Motorola and Verizon need to work on a fix.

I was able to restart my phone again after it froze up as I described in my previous post.

I don't think this was an issue with 2.1.  We started having the problem with 2.2.

Is there anybody out there that got a new or refurbed phone that works fine after the device was replaced.  I think a couple of people had said that after they upgraded the replacement phone from 2.1 to 2.2 the problem recurred.

Mine updated the 2nd night I had my replacement. Seems to be fine.

I did take the time today to "freeze" my phone for about 10 minutes. (Not the battery, just the old phone.) Guess what... It booted! It was wiped as I had walked through the hard reset process using my wife's phone as a visual aid.

So it is a temp issue. I am thinking that a software glitch is causing the phone to think it is hotter than it really is.

Anyway, I am keeping the refurb and sending in my old one just to be safe.

Relax, be patient, use 2.1 for now, this is motorola, they'll have a fix soon, until then, go out for a walk and smell the roses.

Hi All,

I have had the same problem....tried the hard reset, soft reset, battery pull....I took it back to verizon and the manager said some applications do not do well with the 2.2 update.  I told him that I did have the droid 2 before the droid x and he said despite the 2.2 updates these were different phones.  I tend to believe the guy....my droid x would work fine after a hard reset cleaning the cache and erasing everything.  Then I would add apps and it would suddenly hang on the M screen.  So I have gradually added apps and then shut down and restart trying to identify the culprit.  So far....so good with no hang up.....If I get to an app that I believe hangs the phone I will keep you all up to date.

When doing the 2.2 update I recommend doing the updating from the phone using the over the air method and not wi-fi.

Try removing and reinstalling the battery again to do a soft reset, and then powering on the device.   The device may take some time to power on, once the device is on try doing another soft reset.

From the main screen, touch menu tab
Touch Settings
Touch About Phone
Touch System Updates

Yes, I did have to "suffer through this ordeal" and the only solution that worked was a data wipe.  By a "data wipe"  I mean the actually bootloader data wipe option, not a hard reset.  After that I've been sailing smoothly.  I don't understand how a data wipe would fix the problem and it pop back up again.  You only have to install the update once.

As for me saying that the freezer idea is a bad one:  This is the internet, if you tell someone to place the battery in their freezer for a couple minutes, there will be several people who put it into their freezer over night.  They will then go to the store and say "I read it on the VZW forums and now it's broken."

Hi All,

First... that overheating issue is folly.....I battery pull, soft reset, and hard reset and if there was an issue of the software indicating the phone was hot it would happen consistently....From my previous post.....from my experience.....pandora hangs my phone on the M screen....that is the only application so far that I have seen that does that.....I am starting to believe apps do this to the phone.

Since pulling Pandora off your phone have you had less of a problem with the hang issue?  I am having the same problem and I did download Pandora awhile back.

Hey All,

My girlfriend got the Droid X with 2.2 pre-installed.  She has no issues.....I finally gave in and returned my Droid X with the OTA 2.2 and got another X with 2.2 pre-installed.  No issues thus far.
