VERIZON! SMS sends to wrong person/recipient

I've had the Droid Incredible since last July and it has been great (not including battery life) except for the odd quirk, but i have noticed a potentially dangerous problem that needs to be fixed right away: I send a SMS text message to somebody and it ends up going to somebody else! This happened twice in the last 2 weeks and at least 3 times since the Froyo 2.2 Android update. Apparently this is an Android bug that Google has already fixed but I haven't gotten any system updates from Verizon which makes me wonder if they are planning on rolling it out. This is critical and should be fixed ASAP.

Hello,

If you are creating a message, but press Home to exit the Messaging application before pressing Send, you will need to return to the draft message to discard it. Menu > Discard.

If you receive a new message and open the Messaging application, you will need to wait several seconds until the message threads have been completely displayed. Accessing new messages too quickly can cause unintended delivery.

This issue can impact Android devices with Operating System versions from 1.0 up to 2.2 (Froyo). Google is providing patches to device vendors to address this issue in OS versions Éclair (2.0/2.1) and Froyo (2.2). The patch will be incorporated into upcoming maintenance releases that will be pushed directly to your device.

    Thanks.

This has happened to my daughter. She does not own an Incredible, she has a Samsung Reality and just told me about this problem 2 days ago. At first I thought her friend has accidently forwarded any responses to her mom's phone, but no, once in a while, whenever she texts her friends, (a number of them) her friend's mom gets the text!!! Why is this?

it's not verizon. it's google/android. it's a known issue and was even reported on cnn last month. google supposedly was working on a fix.....but i for one have become EXTREMELY cautious with what i send until i'm confident that it's fixed. you can ggole the issue and find many sites/blogs/stories.

Thanks to everyone for your patience while we've been investigating these reports. As it turns out, we believe there are two distinct situations being discussed on this issue chain. Fortunately, we have fixes for both of them. When some users tap to open a message in the Messaging application, they're seeing a different message appear instead. We don't believe this issue is affecting many users, but we've developed a fix that we're preparing to deploy. Of course, double-checking the displayed message before hitting "Send" will prevent any messages from being sent to the wrong recipients. We've found in testing this issue, it is more likely to occur if you tap on a message before the Messaging app is fully loaded, so we recommend waiting for all the elements to load before clicking on the message you want to display.Separately, some users have reported that their SMS messages are being delivered to the wrong people. It took us some time to reproduce this issue, as it appears that it's only occurring very rarely. Even so, we've now managed to both reproduce it and develop a fix that we will deploy. While we don't anticipate any persistent problems, we'll continue to investigate in case we come up with additional ways to trigger these bugs. Thanks again for helping us improve Android.

The problem isn't only with Android phones. I have a LG Cosmos Touch and my texts get sent to the wrong recipients all the time. At first it was just annoying but I have had messages that go to the wrong recipient and completely change the conversation and have even gotten people angry at me. This needs fixed.

Supposedly Google fixed it in Gingerbread (Android 2.3)

Should the Droid Incredible receive 2.3 (and the current rumors are pointing that way), it would be part of that update.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
