Try rebooting your phone, The apps will be running again.

Even Microsoft never did anything as evil as this.  With Microsoft's rogue apps (Windows Messenger, IE5/6, etc) you could still uninstall them and/or disable them from auto-starting.  Even with Dell PC's you can uninstall all the crap they throw on there.   Verizon has sunk to a level of evil below even Microsoft and Dell.

Why are you so being mellowdrammatic?

If you have your phone running on Froyo (or even Eclair for that matter), the phone will automatically kick off the Skype and/or other applications you're not using within you using your first six applications.

With one of these insanely small applications running you are not going to notice a huge difference. If it's that large of a deal for you, go root your phone and be satisfied. If you don't want to do that, stop complaining. It'll get you no where here.

It's not malicious, it's not "wrong." And furthermore, it affects your phone little, to none at all.

I'm not.  I am pointing out VZ's behavior in comparison to other known behavior from a similar industry in a similar time.

Not true.   I have ~20 apps running, and Skype (which has never been launched since the froyo upgrade) is still running.  Last reboot was ~4 hours ago.

I work for a competitor to Skype.   I don't want Skype running on my handset as Skype has access to my mic and network connection... and I know exactly what it can do with those hardware bits.  Sure I could root the phone, but why should I have to do that when I am already paying for a working device?

imho it is intentional and unethical... and evil.

So I hear comparing two different companies that at most only look similar at face value, is pretty accurate.

If you have anything more than 7 or 8 applications "running" then you have an issue that's more than just Skype running in the bg.

Paranoia isn't a reason to feel so upset that you think VERIZON is evil because you think SKYPE is going to sneak up on you.

You made that assumption, not I.   It has nothing to do with paranoia, it has every thing to do with common sense.

Android is a Linux based system.  The libraries are in memory.  Just because you see apps in ram doesn't mean they are "running".  For example it is more than likely the Dialer shares a few libraries with Skype as they both need the same libraries.  Dialer may have 1 processes, and Skype will have 0 processes...  Only the Dialer is truely running

caveat:  I live/use/work with Linux, I speak at technical linux conventions.

On true linux systems, If you shutdown a libssl enabled app (i.e. apache) that app doesn't remain in the task list even though other libssl apps are still running.  Yes, android task management is different than stock linux systems, and android does keep the application running (i.e. active), it's just not doing much.... hopefully.
