Verizon refuses to help me resolve my issue...

I was a happy Droid owner (minus the voice transmit issue that will hopefully soon be fixed) until last night when I went to turn my Droid on.  I was greeted with the display not turning on, but the sound still working.  This morning I had the same issue so I took to phone to Verizon to look at it.  While they were fiddling with it a small mark appeared on the bottem, right-hand side of the screen.  The Verizon reps came back to me and said it was condensation and accused me of getting the phone wet, even though the mosture mark thing under the battery cover was NOT triggered.  They refused to help me further and told me I'd have to buy a new phone because Motorola wouldn't service it.  I did NOT get the screen or any other part of the phone wet, so what the heck could have caused this?  I also do not expose the phone to steam (I don't take it into the bathroom when I shower).  I do no have $559.00 that Verizon wants to charge me to buy a new Droid.  I've only had the phone for about 40 days...what should I do?  This is complete bull crap and I cannot believe I am stuck with a new 2-year contract and no working phone.  HELP!

FIrst, IS it moisture?  (By the way, keep the back off and the battery out so it can "breath" and not turn your moisture indicator red)

Some electronic components can "vaporize" what is essentially a "waxy" substance, for lack of a better word.  (When I was a kid we used to purposely hook up individual components to 110 volt power cords just to hear them sizzle/explode etc.)

I've also had some capacitors "fry themselves" on motherboards, and in hard drives, which again can produce "smoke" that can leave "droplets" of "gunk" behind.  (Again, for lack of a better word - sorry)

If it is indeed moisture inside the display, try all of the normal "dry it out" methods, place in a sealed container with dry, uncooked rice, or better yet some desiccant crystals from a hobby store (Used to dry flowers) for a day or two in a warm area.  If it is moisture, and not some other substance, it should disappear (and possibly get your phone working again.).

If it remains, even after a couple of days, then it obviously is NOT moisture, and I would go back to the store and demand some satisfaction, or try contacting Motorola directly.

Thanks for the reply.  I took it to another Verizon location and they helped me out and made me feel like they actually cared (unlike the first location).  They gave me a refurb phone, but I don't mind.  At least the screen works!

P.S.  No, it wasn't condensation; looked like the same fogging you mentioned when a capacitor burns out.  I'm an IT guy, so I know what that looks like.

Thanks again for the help!

I am glad it worked out for you. :smileyhappy:

It would seem strange that there would actually be moisture under the screen and yet the moisture indicator didn't go red :smileyhappy:

I had to quit carrying phones in my pocket because of sweat and moisture, even on dry days. When you are doing shows outdoors in 95-degree heat, well, sweating is kinda inevitable.

I went through a couple of Razrs several years ago like this. The phone itself wouldn't get wet, but condensation would make the water marker show dampness.

For you iPhone-crazed folks, it's important to remember this, in case the iPhone comes raining (sorry) down on our heads....they do not tolerate exposure to moisture well at all. Don't leave in the lavatory when showering and don't keep it in a pocket if you work outdoors.

(waiting for the inevitable "I know somebody that had their iPhone 6000 feet under the sea with no problems". You know SOMEONE will come along with that)
