The only thing I'm still up in the air about is what happens after 30 days of ATT service.   It seemed like in one spot it said that as long as you took the free phones from them you would be a month to month customer after your 30 day trial period.  However , in another spot it appears as though if you wait longer than 30 days you may end up having to fullfil your current (verizon) contract date.

To me that is a huge deal.  Since I have 20+ months remaining with Verizon.  If ATT forces me to go with the contract date I'm canceling for sure.  [why wouldn't I?]  However, if I'm month to month and free and clear after 30 days I'd be tempted to stay 31 days then cancel then sell the phones on eBay.

I have always read the information as this. If you are in a contract with Verizon at the switch date and continue to use AT&T after the first thirty days, you are required to finish out your current contract to that ending date. For example my current contract started Nov 2009 and ends Nov 2011. Since I choose the free phone, I would have to keep AT&T until Nov 2011 should I choose to stay with AT&T past the first 30 days.

I suspect if a person was already out of contract with Verizon currently and got the free phone from AT&T as part of the switch, they would be on a month to month basis with AT&T.

Well, I guess you can read it both ways.  This is the letter I got:

Do they mean no additional contract at all... or no additional ADDED to what you have with Verizon.

I guess you could read it both ways.

I just spent the last hour on the phone with a very cool supervisor.  His name was John C. and he pretty much informed that, yes I would still be under contract coming from Verizon.  He also informed me that I may have an issue with porting my number back to Verizon if I cancelled after 1 day of ATT use.  Very scary thought.

Hey, did that supervisor say if we held out for say ten days or more into the first days, would it be easier then to port back to Verizon?

The last conversation I had with a Verizon customer service representative tasked to their divestment group, seemed to think that it shouldn't be too much trouble porting the number back to Verizon. Whether it was one day or further in to those 30 days.

BTW I did get an new letter package in the mail in the last week that included the terms of service agreement. I'll post more on that later after I read it this weekend.

No, I'm not sure what his reasoning was for thinking I wouldn't be able to port my number back.

Well my free phone is now listed as shipped. Hmm... I wonder how it takes them to ship these things?

Haven't been able to activate it yet. To be safe, I took the SIM card out and turned on airplane mode. So far so good. It is still on android 2.1-update1, but I am noticing minor improvements over the straight android 2.1 the Eris runs officially. I do wish the Eris would have gotten that same update, but it didn't.

I haven't loaded all my preferred Apps yet. With it so empty, I finally gave in and downloaded Angry Birds Seasons. I now understand what the big deal is for that application, but boy am I bad at it. I'll leave that game to the experts. :smileyvery-happy:

The wifi connection seems more stable then my Eris wants to be at home. Based on the information from System Panel Lite, my Eris uses a tiwlan0 network interface and the Aria uses an eth0 network interface. It was the only difference I could see in the network information view through the application. Does anyone know differences between the two? At least since the update to 2.1, the wifi connection on the Eris likes to get stuck. Sometimes it re-associates itself and sometimes I have to manually cycle the wifi. The router I use is about five years old and I recently updated the firmware, changed the channel, changed mode to g-only, and change to wpa2 from wpa security. I could change to a new router but all the other objects connect fine. I am considering changing the channel again, but haven't got around to it. I am not sure I want to change the channel to one of recommended channels in my wifi analyzer application. There are other people's wifi's in those channels.

I have managed to run the Aria long enough that At&t bloatware has stopped running in the background. I did force stop some of them, but only after the phone has been on for several hours. I don't use atk, but if System Panel Lite says the application started over 6 hours ago and I haven't touched it, it is time to make it stop.
