I have a Droid X that constantly displays a new voicemail notification. The problem is that there are no actual new voicemails and the voicemail account has been completely cleared out. The phone is also setup for Visual Voicemail. Does anyone have any ideas as to how the new voicemail notification can be cleared?

I ended up having to do a factory reset on the phone as it basically started flipping out (the dialer started crashing constantly and the phone would lose it's connection for a couple seconds; I do not think it was related to the voicemail notification). After the reset was completed the voicemail notification finally disappeared.

You need to delete the message or save it to make the voicemail notification to go away. Annoying, but it works.

There are no messages in the voicemail account to delete.

Does turning your phone off then back on take away the voicemail notification?

Nope. It also does not give me an option to clear it from the notification dropdown.

If you pull down on the notification window, next to the Verizon Wireless is a CLEAR button which clears all notifications.

As I stated in the previous post it does not give me the option to clear the notification.

Just because we all read things differently, I just want clarification, when you pull down the notification bar, there is not a line item saying X amount of VM's? If so, just press and hold on that line,

It is the standard Android VM notification: [voicemail icon] New Voice Mail (1) press *86. When you select the notification it proceeds to dial voicemail. Press and holding the item does nothing.

I am also having the same issues as of 2PM today. Notification pull down - Cannot get rid of Voice Mail Icon. There is nothing to clear it out. Power off and on - Nothing. Pulled battery - It is still on. I would love to hear any updates to this or solutions. Thanks in advance.

After you hear your voicemail hit the #7 to delete the message completely then close. The notification symbol should go away.

I just had this problem with my new Droid Razr. I called customer service by landline as instructed. Their rep called my Razr. Told me not to answer and left a voicemail. I was then instructed to call voicemail and delete the message. When I was done the pesky voicemail notification was gone.

I am having the same issue with my Droid X. My wife forwarded a voicemail to my number, its not in my voicemail and I cannot clear it. I am speculating that it is due to me using Google Voice for my voicemail. I suppose if you manage to leave a voicemail in the Verizon mailbox, my phone will only call the Google Voice mailbox, thus the "nothing there" phenomenon. The trick is to figure out how to get to your Verizon Voicemail Box after you elect to use Google Voice as your Voicemail service. Let me know what you think.

The resolution is to clear the Data Cache of the Phone app. For those unfamiliar, follow the below
Go to Settings
Click on Application Manager
Locate "Phone" on the list
Click "Phone"
Press the button that says "Clear Data"
This will not harm your contacts list nor affect your recent dialed list. If you are nervous about losing data, you might want to back up this app's data using various backup software.

This did the trick for me, and lucky I found it the same day it was posted. I had the indicator saying New Voicemail (5) and I have Google Voice as well on a Droid Bionic on Verizon.
Thanks for the tip!
