Hi Scott,
It is a way to force your phone to checkin for updates with your provider. To use it, open the phone dialer and press:
* # * # 2 4 3 2 5 4 6 # * # *
Don't use spaces - I just put them in for clarity. The numbers spell checkin.
You don't have to press send - when android detects that key sequence in the dialer, it triggers a checkin, which checks the market for app updates and the provider for any firmware updates to the phone.
It doesn't install the updates (unless you have automatic updating allowed in the market for the app), so if there is a firmware update found and you want it, you must go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates to install it.
I hope that helps.
Jamie

I don't mean to sound harsh but I just want to know what that is supposed to mean?
