WIFI stopped working after GB update

My DX has always connected to my old Microsoft wireless router but after upgrading to Gingerbread, I try to connect to WIFI and it just stalls at trying to connect. Any ideas? The strange thing is that the WIFI worked at the a free hot spot in our grocery store...go figure. Could my Microsoft MN700 router be too old for my Droid X on Gingerbread?

I also met to say that I rebooted my router, shut down and restarted my phone and that did not help either.

Do you have anything else connected via wifi to your router to confirm that you can actually connect to it. It is possible that the problem is on your router end and not the phone. My X connects just fine to wifi after the update.

You could also try going into the wifi settings on your X, forget the connection to your router and start from scratch.

Hello RCSchnoor,

Yes, my wifi is working as I have 2 laptops connected via wifi. I tried the "Forget" and reconnect and it stil just sits at "Obtaining an IP address" I may do a factory reset on my router and reconfigure it to see if that helps, if not, I may just buy a new wireless router as this one is about 7 years old.

after gb i connected to my wi-fi /wep encryption and it remembered and connected right away.

fastest i've seen thru speakeasy/dallas, 16.6mb down, 5+ up after gb with 15mb service thru cox.

make sure it doesn't need encryption re-entered.

with .340, my dx wouldn't connect with wap encryption.

@mebobio --   have you tried going to an open WiFi hot-spot, ala Starbucks?  Just to rule out whether it's your router or the phone?  I would try that at this point.

We have had others advise of not being able to connect to Wi-Fi since the Gingerbread update.

Please try changing the security from WPA2 to WPA. This has seemed to help.

Hi Tamara,

I have tried WEP and WPA, that's all my Microsoft router has. Neither works with my DX on GB. Thanks.

@Tamara_VZW:   My Droid X has also been Dropping more from my Wi-Fi when i'm streamin like Winamp or Tune in Music It works for a While then stopps tries to refresh but can't.  There even been Times when the screen has went blank an then it repowers up again.  Then there are times it will go for 4 to 6 hours with out a hint of a problem so i'm puzzled whats causing this.  the Router i use i Listed it in a earlier Post here on this Thread so u can see what model i use. An i use Cox internet service so i dont no if its Router or settings.  I use WPA/WPA2  PSK . An i use this because of living in a Appartment Complex . So having security is a must to keep the Nose Pickers Away.  But even having the Security set as it is. The phones should work with them . If you have your Security UserName An Passwork Set up Right there should'nt be any issues on the phones as so Many are Having.   So i guess its a waiting game before there a update or something to resolve the issue.  I Hope.

I have the same router, and the same problem. Have done s factory reset 5 times still same problem. Have talked to both Verizon and Motorola, neither have a clue as to what the problem could be. My wifi says connected but no data network.

Try removing the wifi settings and restore settings because my wifi has worked flawless...   Google improved security settings protacols and if you updated without a reset the settings may not match the security levels required.  As you may noticed a number of users have been having to clear caches for many apps to work after update and this is why I have habit to reset before update...  Its just me..

It has to be my old MSN wireless router because I was able to connect at a Hospital yesterday to there free WIFI and also at another local store that has free wifi and it worked fine although at the hospital it appeared to disconnect quite often because I had to always go back to there website and go through the connection process over an over. I'm going to purchase new wireless router, I'm sure that will resolve the problem and I'll get faster speeds then 54mb :smileyhappy:

I have the same issue with my Droid X and Microsoft wireless router. After updating to Gingerbread 2.2.3 (4.5.596) the Droid X will no longer connect with the router. I have unplugged, reset, rebooted, reconfigured settings, changed settings from WEP to open and still nothing. The Droid X WILL connect at Starbucks and will connect to an encrypted wireless network (netgear router I believe), but nothing can get the Droid X to connect to Microsoft MN-700 router. I have other wireless devices that continue to work on my wireless network. Just enabled the wireless on my 2WIRE modem and the Droid X connected perfectly.

What are the chances that Google is blackballing Microsoft and not allowing their devices to be compatible?

I will ask again what I asked previously, and never saw a reply if that worked -- Have you first tried connecting at a Starbucks or other free wIfI HOTSPOT??  If you CAN connect in on an unsecured router, it is likely a router configuation issue on your side.

just a thought in a way to troubleshoot this.  I had absolutely no issue the very first morning getting to my (older WEP secured) Linksys router after GB.
