Sounds like a spam to me. Believe me it, unfortunately, happens. Did you open it to see what it was? If it is junk, and you receive more of them, you can block that number. You do that on the computer and logging into the Verizon Site. Pull down the menu for "My Services" and you will see the spam control five lines down.

Google is your friend.
Ok, well I got a response back from Verizon support today and here's what they said...
""Ms. Smith, the "//BREW:0108f3d4:GCD " notification message you're receiving is an indication that you were previously using a mobile device that was a Media Center/Get It Now compatible device and that you previously downloaded Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) applications to your previous model phone. *Our records reflect that you were previously using the Verizon Wireless Blitz and LG Cosmos VN250 model phones on wireless number ***-***-**** prior to activating the BlackBerry Curve 8530 Smartphone you currently using on your wireless number. *The LG Cosmos VN250 and Verizon Wireless Blitz model phones are both Media Center/Get It Now compatible device and BREW compatible devices. *My name is Robert, and it will be my pleasure to provide you with additional information about the "//BREW:0108f3d4:GCD " notification message you've been receiving on your current mobile device's screen display.
Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) is an open, standard platform for wireless devices that allows multiple media messages (music, videos, games, etc) to be transmitted to a single device. *For example, our records reflect that you've previously downloaded and canceled two recent applications on the same day you activated your BlackBerry Curve 8530 Smartphone (i.e., Backup Assistant and Social Beat) as your current BlackBerry device is not a Get It Now/Media Center compatible, BREW enabled mobile device.""
From there they instructed me to do a "soft reset" on my phone by powering it off and removing the battery for one to two minutes. Afterward I was to put the battery back in, power on the phone and perform the OTA programming for roaming updates. Apparently this should solve the issue with the weird message. Now I just have to wait and see if it works.

Dial *228, option1 to reprogram the phone.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
