My girlfriend's phone had that problem too, until her battery just up and wouldn't charge one day. First year it's covered by a mfr warranty, so after they evaluated it at the store, they did an OEM replacement.
as for the update... I posted here http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-2-by-Motorola/Droid-2-Global-Update/td-p/597256 about that... this morning (8/16) that there were no plans and no timeline to update the phone.
There is a number if device experiancing the same thing and just because other devices have it doesnt even mean that all device will get it... I would just enjoy the device the way it is instead of wonder about what it doesn have.
Are you having issues that GB is suppose to fix?
The battery life of my D2G is to short and i have heard that GB will make it work better.I can't stand charge my phone twice a day.

On the motorola site, and referenced in the verizon site is the norice of software upgrade as of October 18

I can only hope, but am not very hopeful considering the above notes, that it helps stop the locking, rebooting, locking, dropping!!!!!!
Mine updated about a month ago and no problems. I have D2G same as my wife, they work fine. It's andoid ver 2.3.3 Not sure what that means but it works fine.
