Who thinks Motoblur should be removable?

But, I think that you should be able to remove customizable skins if you want. Bloatware for sure, but the widgets and skins they have are made for a high school student.
I have signed every petition and written Moto, Verizon and Google regarding this.
Google wants the skins gone... most of the customers want the skins gone... this OS will start to have problems if these skins continue.
Don't get me wrong... I love putting ADW on my phone and makes it look great, but I chose to put it on there I wasn't forced to have it like motoblur.
I have yet to find anyone that likes all that motoblur offers. They also hate the preinstalled apps.
If you think no one notices, then just go to the market and look up Blockbuster.
If you want to start alienating your customers then you will continue this Verizon.
I am sure a lot of people are willing to go to TMobile with the G2 because it run a vanilla version of 2.2. It has been clocked as the fastest Android phone even though it has a slower processor... do you know why? No skins and no Bloatware.
Rant done.

Google can't do it period. They would have to change their licensing in order to change it. They would be violating their own licensing by not allowing manufacturers to do so.
Personally if it wasn't for the custom UI's Android would have never made it this far.

I disagree with your last opinion though... I would say that things would have started better if the UI was inform. There would be less confusion on products for the general public.
Google wants open phones.. non of this locked down crap.

When Sense UI hit the scene it out sold the G1, and the MyTouch by miles. Almost everyone with a G1\MyTouch hacked their phones just to put Sense on their phones. People today are still straying away from the stock UI. Pandahome, ADW.Laucher, and whatever they are. If people really wanted a stock UI those would not be as popular.
Google doesn't want open phones like you think they do. If they really wanted to be open and didn't care about their code they would have went with a GPLv2, instead of ASL. They want the appearance of being open. Yet they have already sent out C&D orders to developers using their code. It would be removable if Google didn't lock out root(Even the Nexus One you have no root even though it was easiest to root it, but if they were open why not give root in the first place like Linux).
Sure if you want them removable, but you have to bring that up with ASL that Google chose. Under GPLv2 they couldn't lock apps in if they wanted to. As it would truly be 100% open, and not 85% open, and ASL allows you to change the terms as soon as you put your own code into it. At least with GPLv2 you have to release the code to the public at some point.
Not saying anything negative or anything towards you. It's just one of things I feel the "Google can do no evil" is just a front. You should not listen to OHA, but rather listen to OAA(These people know what's going on under the radar).

I don't have a problem with the way things are now, though options are always nice.
I don't pay any attention to the additional software, I don't want to use it so I don't. Sure it would be nice if you could remove it but it isn't actually harming anything so I don't see the big deal.
As to the interface, it doesn't bother me a bit I don't see why everyone complains about blur. Someone please tell me what it is I'm supposed to hate about it.
I currently use launcher pro, but the only reason for the change was to have the ability to get my home screens in landscape without having the keyboard out.
There are only 2 widgets that I use, news and calendar. How one set of widgets looks immature (for high school students) vs adult looking widgets, I don't understand.

I've mostly gotten used to the new UI, but I don't see much value in most of the components in it.
I prefer the stock email client from google.
I prefer the stock text client from google.
I don't use 4 of the 7 home screens.
The only moto widgets that I'm using are the 1 touch dial and text widgets, because I can't figure out how to do the stock ones that I had on the D1.
Given all of these things that I don't like I would not trade these dislikes for how much I like swype.

If they didn't lock down apps, then people would be working for donations (doesn't work).
I know people do like some of the UIs... Like I said above, they just need to be removable. If we continue to let this crap on the phones the will eventually block out downloadable skins... so goodbye launcherpro goodbye adw (better than launcher).
Adding code on top of code is rarely a good idea... if I want my phone to look like a winmo phone from 2005 then I will leave sense.
I do think google can do evil, but you seem to think moto and verizon can do no evil.

I have 2 widgets that I use, they are the only ones that I want to use. I have 7 home screens, 3 of which are blank because I only use a select few apps daily and the secondary ones are on a different screen.
What exactly can it do for me that I'm not already doing?

Oh they do. You just don't see it as it doesn't affect you YET. For you to notice you will have to read a lot of developer Terms of Use, and such. They seperate them nicely enough that there are loopholes to take advantage of developers.
If they didn't lock down apps, then people would be working for donations (doesn't work).
It wouldn't matter. Doing a simple search you can find ANY APK that's for sale on the market. This is why developers give it out for free, but have to go through them on THEIR servers for licensing. ChompSMS for example.

It would have to be called down the middle. You can't remove Google's stock UI without root. I have never had a problem putting them over TouchWhiz, or Motoblur before. All it will do is free up some space, and not that much space to make any revelance with the way newer device are starting to have bigger space.
Adding code on top of code is rarely a good idea... if I want my phone to look like a winmo phone from 2005 then I will leave sense.
One could just simply not buy the product if it bothered them that much.
I do think google can do evil, but you seem to think moto and verizon can do no evil.
On the contrary I have a different take on it, but it would require an essay to possibly get you to understand my point of view, and more than likely you will not agree with it. So I'll let you believe that, but I have pointed the exact same thing on AT&T(got banned ironically), and T-Mobile(didn't get banned or suspended). This is ranging from HTC, Apple, Motorola, Samsung devices(I am a phone freak). It's all the same if you ask me regardless of what carrier. I simply say if you don't like how things are you will get the same thing on another carrier. If you truly want it to change you will have to convince Billions of cellular subscribers to get rid of the convenience of having a cell phone to get carriers to change.

I prefer ADW.Launcher. LP is another good choice.

You can also use themes (changes things up)
You can also change the rows and columns for homescreens... I have used the all... I would just say adw is better.

I can set LP to use fewer homescreens too, the default is 3. It can also resize widgets, not icons though.
I can set the 4 LP buttons at the bottom to use the apps I want, giving me 1 more row of icons or 1 fewer, however you want to look at it.
I can change rows and colums, and it has an experimental setting for a 3D app drawer.
Not sure I care too much about themes. I change the background periodically and the default app icons.
Sounds like 1 vs the other is nothing more than a matter of preference, not necessarily better vs worse.

I liked the plain Android theme from my original Droid. After having a Droid 2 for a few weeks I (kind of) like the Motoblur lite on theD2. I think having it spread over 7 screens is overkill but I have the following Motorola widgets on my main homescreen: weather, social updates and the calendar app with 3 dates showing. The rest of the screen is the usual small widgets, app store, messaging, etc. I've come to embrace the blur to a point, but yes, I would like to have the option of removing them .

I find thay I have more stability and a lot more options.
In LP I have never found a way to change the columns and rows on the homescreen..I only saw an option the app drawer.

Read my first paragraph again (I jnow it is incorrect, but I posted a double negative) I agree with you.
Most people don't know how to search for an apk file... most don't even know what apk is.
I won't buy another moto phone ( I was given a Droid 2)
Why would I agree with you... I just think this... just because one company is better does not make it good. Verizon is the best out there, but I will give my money where I think I should spend it... I believe in capitalism and part of that freedom is complaining.
I like a lot of what you have to say... I have even given you kudos (you have no love for me though).
I am a pretty intelligent person with strong beliefs... one of those just happens to be me wanting my phones with a naked google android os.
And see you do know something.. you agree with me on ADW !!!
Love ya tidbits

I read it. I was trying to be the other side of the fence so to speak. I have a habbit of looking at both sides of the coins.
Most people don't know how to search for an apk file... most don't even know what apk is.
That is true, but most people don't know how to use their devices either lol. Not saying you don't, but saying in general.
I won't buy another moto phone ( I was given a Droid 2)
I buy what works for meI figure if I get a lemon I can always exchange it until I get one that works.

I agree with you on this comment. I guess we agree more than we think. I just don't think complaining isn't going to help when the $$$ not spent talks a lot larger than complaining on a forum will ever do.
I like a lot of what you have to say... I have even given you kudos (you have no love for me though).
I have no idea why. It may be I wasn't logged in when I hit the Kudo buttons. There's a lot of posts I agree with.
I am a pretty intelligent person with strong beliefs... one of those just happens to be me wanting my phones with a naked google android os.
Yes you are, and that's how people should be. If Android was the way it should be(like the first device from Android INC) you could have done what you wanted and how you wanted. Since Google bought the code they have changed it dramatically. For better or worse this is what we are stuck with unless Google changes the licensing, but in turn it may end up losing manufacturer support.
And see you do know something.. you agree with me on ADW !!!I am using my Epic 4G with TouchWhiz(I actually love some aspects of it), but wish I could combine ADW with those aspects. I would be in heaven!Love ya tidbits
Love ya too. Everyone should love Tidbits. rub my tummy!
