WiFi issues

I have the orig droid with Android 2.2.  I love uploading to You Tube but I have to shoot real short vids otherwise the phone wants to use my WiFi.  My net tech says he can get on my WiFi but I can not.  The phone starts looking for IP addy then turns off it's own WiFi and starts all over again and never connects.  I have the standard Lynksys router with a addy of 192.168.1.1.  What am I doing wrong?  I would like to upload longer vids.

Thank in advance....

Too slow again.  And WPA/WPA2 are more secure but Droid's running Froyo don't seem to like to stay connected to them.

IMHO, Don't use WEP! It's the most unsecure, and if you're using it on your home network, anyone can park near your house and piggyback on your setup. I have WPA2 bacause Vista won't allow WEP anyway, and my Droid was acting the same way, trying without success to connect, until it hit me: I had to enter the proper WPA2 code ( the long alphanumeric ) ONE time and save it in the phone. After that -- no problem connecting. The Droid finds the network and connects every time.

Just press "settings", go to "Wireless and Networks", "Wi-Fi settings", "add Wi-Fi network" and enter the code. That should work fine.

Actually I didn't really understand the first post. The second one gave me some more information to work with.
In the wifi settings on the phone, touch the wifi network you want to connect to. A dialog open with the status of the connection. Select "Forget". The wifi network will now show as available. Select the network and input the correct key.

Hope this works for you.

On a side note, from what I understand WPA and WPA2 networks are considered more secure.

Granted I don't have Froyo but I have a lot better luck connecting to a WPA network than a WEP network. I would lose the WEP connection if my wifi went to sleep and it would refuse to connect again unless I pulled the battery. It was even affecting my WPA network at home so much that I would have to pull the battery.

What it was doing was connecting for a few seconds, disconnect, attempt to connect again, a few seconds again, disconnect. Rinse and repeat... It was endless cycle until I pulled the battery.
Now I have doubled my 3g usage because I won't connect to the wifi at work (the WEP network).
Never saw the issue again with my home wifi.

I have never had any problems with my wifi so I have never looked at it. I am running a wep network at the house.

The only way I see to reset would be to forget the router in question and start all over by adding it again a few minutes later.

RonAnderson is correct. Here are some instructions on how to set the Wifi network back up.

A soft reboot may also be recommended. (instructions given in the article below)

Hmmm... I just updated the firmware on my router and now I have WPA2. Had the thing for over five years. Maybe I will try my home wifi on a WPA2 security instead of the current WPA security. Time to change the pass key anyway.

My closest neighbour is a mile and a half away. I really don't need to have security on at all. Smiley Happy
