I've heard that carriers will unlock a phone upon request, provided you meet certain criteria. For example, they may require that you have completed your contract or sign up with a new contract. It says nothing about this in the fine print of the contract.
And by "unlock", I mean granting users administrative access to remove all that bloatware Verizon put on my phone, among other things. This is often why people resort to custom ROMs. I'd rather not resort to that and was hoping someone out there tried contacting Verizon about this.
I tried my local retail store and they indicted they don't how and are encouraged not to discuss the topic of unlocking a phone.
Anyone out there tried contacting Verizon support about unlocking your phone? Any luck? Were there any "requirements" that needed to be met?

This option is called rooting your device and No the carrier will not do this because this can damage the device and in some cases turn it into a brick (Totally Unrepairable)... Since the manufacture does not support this I can guarentee that the carriers wont have the steps to even do this.
There is sites that can instruct you on this but you do this at your own risk because carriers do not support or incourage this.
