Will you give up your Droid X to get the Bionic when it is released?

I am wondering if you will get the Droid Bionic when it comes out, or will you wait for another phone that is reported to be on the horizon?

Nope. I have been given the opportunity to upgrade early but I'm holding off to check out the iphone5. Doesn't mean I'm going to get one. I have been using an android based phone for over a year now and the freezing, reboots, battery pulls and overall instability of android based phones have left me wondering if maybe that a better alternative is out there for me.

I may do that for my work Blackberry Storm 2. I will see how good the phone looks. My person DX I am not ready for an upgrade yet, right now I am forwarding all work calls to my DX and have corporate email working well on it plus all my personal email. It is great to only have to carry one phone. I am happy with the X but am still waiting on the latest update for it, hopefully soon.

I agree with galaxie500fb. But, at this point, the Bionic is almost old news before it is released. How about a "Droid HD":

I found out last month that Verizon will let me upgrade early. (Before my 20th month) But I do have to sign a new 2 year contract. If I wait until my 20th month upgrade, I will receive an additional "loyalty" discount.  I'm assuming this loyalty discount is what is replacing the NE2 program.  It'd be nice if it was "in addition to".

Anyway my 20th month upgrade is in March of 2012 because I got my "X" on launch day, so I'm hoping the Dinara or something better will be available by then. i.e. 2nd generation LTE radio etc.

Until then because my Droid X has been serving me superbly.  The absolute best phone I've ever had.

I am definitely considering the Bionic. I'm not doing anymore 2 year contracts so I'm prepared to pay retail as I did with my DX. The Droid HD looks good too, but knowing Samsungs track record with updates and GPS problems, and reading that the Samsung execs had a big meeting regarding the Google/Motorola deal, I'll wait and see what happens.

I had the Droid HD mixed up with the Nexus Prime.

I don't know what the requirement is to get what they call a "loyalty" discount.  I've been with Verizon since back in the '90's, so your guess is as good as mine.  It didn't say how much a loyalty discount was either.   Also I'm just guessin' it replaces the NE2.

Well like i said i'm happy with my droids as well Dirk i don't know what the fait of our plans are going to be when it comes time to renu if were kicked off of our alltel Smartchoice plans. i 'll have to go to a single line that is if the new family plans do to come out soon dont match what we have now an what were paying. it just wont work. but a single line is better than no line at all. an i can live with just one phone. :smileysurprised: that is i think i can Lol :smileyvery-happy: B33

Not a lot of love for the Bionic in this thread. It might go over like "New Coke" did in the 70's, since you mentioned 70's music, B33.

Interesting to see what phones the next months bring.

I was just curious how people felt about it. I talked with a couple of people at work, and they are not liking the display on the Bionic.

Truth be told, I was ready to order it at the start of this month. Now, I am not sure. I would have ordered it sight unseen (which is rare ofr me), but after reading how the colors seem 'off' on the qHD display, I think that I might do a comparison to my X before I decide to buy.

I am also not real happy with the reported $299 price tag for a 2 year contract. I have paid more for a lot less in the past (my first phone with a color display on Nextel), but not sure I want to pump that much into the Bionic, because I will want a car dock too.

So time will tell on what I will do. One part of me says to get the Bionic, the other part says wait for something better from Motorola.

Actually I was concidering the original Bionic before they kept pulling it back and redesigned the device, I decided to go with the TB and I am actually very happy, I have the best of both worlds... The Droid X for work and the Thunderbolt for personal use and both devices have done well for me.

I think the problem they did with Bionic was like what they did with the Samsung Fascinate, they hyped the device up and kept setting release date back further to the point users lost interest plus had time to develop a disliking for the device.

If I hadn't just got my Droid X a few months ago, I probably would through Costco - they're throwing in 3 docks and an extra battery with the Bionic for the $299 price

Is it just me or does the new UI cheapen the device, it seems that they throw it together  and it wasnt complete, and I really dont get the new method for the pull down menu, I perfer the original over the boxes.

They are trying to put more 'ommmffffff' into the animations on the home screen.... but for me, the simpler, the better. But that is my opinion..... the homes screens do not need to have all sorts of animation, that takes up CPU cycles, takes up more memory, and increases the chances of more bugs...... TalkAndroid had a diffeerent video showing off different apps, but it had a few bugs of outlines on the screen when there shouldn't be outlines.....

Still not sure if I want one or not. I like the LTE, Dual Core, 4.3in screen, bigger batter, but still need to check out qHD screens to see if they are as good as the Droid X screen.

I've been interested; however, from what I've been reading, my interested has dropped to zilch. Plus the fact that we still dont have 4g yet, and have no idea if and when we'll get it. Not that I really need 4G since I download very little. I am also not interested in the the Droid X2. Think I'll stick with my Droid X, I'm happy with it. I call it my computer in my pocket.

If I was due for an upgrade.... I might.  One of the things that turned me from yes to I might was when they lit up Honolulu with LTE, my home missed the extended 4G area by a couple blocks.   I guess I actually do have an upgrade coming but I'd have to sign a new 2 year contract.  If I wait until my 20 months are up I get an additional "Loyalty Discount" according to Verizon. Don't know how much that is though.

So, since I'm at the "I might"... I'll go into the Verizon store when the Bionic is released and look at and play with it. If it really "cranks my handle" I may get it. If not, well then it's wait to see what's coming later.  The initial rumored specs of the Dinara have caught my eye.

So......... we'll see.......

On the same note of resources, don't you think 4G pulls enough battery power and then adding higher resolution and a dual core processor isn't going to effect battery power?  Also increasing resolution will also require more memory to render the images on the device....

The more power of the device, the more chance for issues in my opinion, this is one reason the Bionic hasn't been released on time, the hardware had issues working together.
