Wouldn't it be great to have a rechargeable holster

I bought a Droid Charge and love it. But, rather than my being advised to turn down screen brightness (so I can't read anything in bright light), and stop getting urgent emails, calendar syncs and other notifications that I need for my business (I never had this problem on my Blackberry!!!!), wouldn't it be great to have all of the benefits of an Android phone running on VZ's great 4G network, without having to worry that my battery is going to die in 4 or 5 hours? And, when I want to use navigation, wouldn't it be wonderful to know that I don't have to plug my Droid Charge into the cigaretter lighter or supplementary outlet -- risking overheating the phone and interfering with my other car electronics (my air conditioner compressor goes off half of the time when I try to charge my Droid Charge!!!). FOR THOSE OF US WHO BOUGHT THIS PHONE BECAUSE WE REALLY NEED ALL THOSE GADGETS AND GIZMOS FOR WORK, THE POWER-SAVING SUGGESTIONS BEING MADE JUST AREN'T USEFUL.
As for those who suggest that I carry a second battery, or use the larger battery that is available or or keep a charger in my pocket, and hook up to the nearest outlet whenever I am stationary -- I guess that they would also be satisfied with the 2 pound cell phone I used to carry around in 1994. To put the matter bluntly, what is the point of an ultralight, ultrathin phone if I have to lug along all sorts of accessories.
Obviously the ideal solution would be a battery that could hold triple the charge in the same sized package; or some revolution in the chip and screen design that would allow the same performance as today using far less power. But until someone comes along with that magic, how about a simple little device that could help us in the meantime: a rechargeable holster!
There already are rechargeable holsters for the iPhone, several Blackberry models, and the Palm Pre. So why hasn't someone produced them for the two LTE phones -- the Droid Charge and the HTC Thunderbolt? Thousands of people wear holsters for their Blackberry's every day ... so many, that the Blackberry holster has become a business fashion accessory. So, given the power drain needed to get all of that wonderful 4G LTE Android goodness, one would have thought that the OEMs would have had rechargeable holsters ready at Launch!!

so you don't want a larger battery or to carry a second battery in your pocket, but you'd be OK with carrying a holster large enough to hold a second battery (i'm not familiar with these, but can only assum a rechargeable holster contains another battery)? while i agree that it will be nice if they can ever produce smaller batteries with more juice, i would rather cary the extra battery (that is tiny in my opinion) than wear a large holster. also, i know the large screens are what have become the standard, but maybe a manufacturer will make a 4g phone with a 3 inch display. that would do wonders for a 1300-1500mah battery life.

I didn't even know charging holsters were out there plus you would have to charge your holster as well as the phone. I personally don't use a holster and think they're ugly and bulky so I always get the extended battery. On the Thunderbolt the extended battery was a little bulky but the Charge extended battery I think is sexy. Also the charge with an extended battery attached doesn't seem to weigh much more than a stock Thunderbolt.

Motorola P793
A portable power pack, that plugs into your charge port, and can recharge a charge 3 times, before it needs to be charged itself. Its an excellent item to have, and use.
I've used it on Thunderbolt, before I changed to a demo Commando for more durability at my work. It did what it claimed to do, and kept me going all day.

I'd like a wireless portable power pack that works by induction to charge the phone's battery.

Actually, thousands of Blackberry users wear holsters. In fact they are OEM issue. At the heyday of Blackberry they were a fashion accessory, telling everyone that you were a Business User, rather than just some kid running around with a phone so you could text your giggling friends. Now that the iPhone and Android are growing in popularity as business phones, it is no longer fashionable to broadcast to the world that you own a Blackberry. Instead, it's now fashionable to show that you own an iPhone or Android to prove that you're "with it." So, I suppose Blackberry users are going to hide their holsters under the hems of their suit jackets, so that they don't look like old fuddy-duddies who are still using BBerrys.
BTW, I'm not knocking your reluctance to wanting to wear a holster. I used to feel that way too until I tried it. When I first saw someone wearing a holster, I said I would never wear one, since it reminded me of the pocket-protectors geeks used to wear along with the sliderules they kept in their pockets. But, then I finally realized that thousands of my peers were doing it, and that it actually was FASHIONABLE, rather than nerdish. So, I tried it too.
What I found was that having a phone on a holster hanging from your belt is absolutely weightless. I would have to check every so often to make sure I hadn't lost it!!! (Actually, it is firmly attached, and nearly impossible to accidentally dislodge). Also, it is far easier to get it out of one's holster (assuming it is one of the properly designed holsters), than it is to dig it out of your pocket (or pocketbook). So, I never missed a call. When my BBerry was on vibrate, I could feel it instantly, and pop it out of the holster before the second ring.
In other words, I was astonished to find that holsters are a practical solution for making your phone feel weightless to carry (contrary to what you would expect), and convenient to access instantly.
By contrast, I now find that carrying my Droid Charge in a pocket is a nuisance. Even though it is light, keeping it in my suit jacket pocket makes it feel far heavier than wearing a phone on a holster. And fishing it out is difficult. If I am dressed casually, my tee shirts usually don't have pockets, so I have to slip the phone into a pants' pocket. That risks getting it scratched by my keys if I keep it in my front pocket, or risks my sitting on it if I keep it in my back pocket.
As for the other idea that people raise, about carrying a spare battery or charger. That's nuts. What's the point of a thin, light phone if you're going to have to carry accessories along with it? The beauty of a holster is that you don't CARRY the batttery, it floats weightlessly on your waist.
So, the bottom line is that a rechargeable holster is the ideal solution for adding backup power for 4G LTE phones.
OH ... AND ONE LAST POINT -- There already is a rechargeable holster for the iPhone. So why not one for Android?

I cheerfully wore a BBerry holster and found it functional -- freed up space in my pockets.
A rechargeable holster for the Charge would be fine, but at this point, I'd probably be happy to see ANY usable holster for a Charge. The only one I've seen from Verizon requires that unacceptable shell.
