Before the update, when I would use the advanced task killer, the apps that I had killed would not run or start until I would use them again. Now after the update, after I kill apps, or when my screen shuts off I have apps that I wasn't using suddenly running and the task killer doesn't seem to kill them. I also have a friend that is having the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas or the same issue

Yes, I have the same issue. Is there a patch for this yet? It is very annoying as it uses up my battery much faster.

I have the same problem and I am extremely irritated by it. I loved my phone before the update and wish I could go back to 2.1. What should I do?

I have the same thing happening. These are the programs that keep starting themselves in the background even though I never open them. Are these the ones that you have starting?
Amazon MP3
VZNavigator
Skype Mobile

YES you will see them as if they are running. THEY ARE NOT. Get past your Windows mentality. THIS IS DIFFERENT. And I agree tech support is a crap shoot. But try calling during the early AM 8-11, and hope you get Debra from Minnesota. She IS awesome.

1) Why do they need to start (are they tracking/recording/monitoring something)
2) What starts them, and how.
3) Why does Verizon allow this questionable behavior.

I have the same problem and it kills battery life instead of saving it. Wasn't that the point of the task killer...??? Seriously, how much money did I pay and keep paying for something that isn't working correctly. Sounds like someone needs to get new IT geeks and get this crap fixed NOW!!!

In the 2.2 (Froyo) update, ATK's are not needed. Google's developers have created the Android OS to close applications that are not being used once memory levels/resources get low enough. ***Many ATK's are going to have the same issue (killing an application, and it restarting itself). The Froyo (2.2) update had caused this to happen with the ATK's however; this is working as it was designed.
Hope this helps!

Morgan, you just contradicted yourself. If they designed it so that we do not have to have ATK's, then why do we still have apps running that we do not want to. Apparentaly, you must know what everybody is complaining about.

MorganB,
What you said makes no sense. The primary problem is that the constantly running software kills the already poor battery life of the phone. I've seen a huge loss in battery efficiency since the change, and I am constantly killing these apps. Not only that, but we are not able to remove them.
Verizon has effectively pushed malware to our phones, and it is our right, as end consumers, to remove that software. I'll quote the LAW that congress recently passed stating that very thing, if need be.

Because you SEE an app as running, it most likely is not if you are not physically using it. Linux based OS use parts or processes (that is the correct terminology) of other programs to make another program run.
Yes, you will see some cached data and all, but they in the true definition are NOT running. Without ATK you can force close and when a particular program needs something from the other, it will reopen to allow the access the original program needs to run. It is the inherent nature of the OS.

I'm sure this is true and all. But if this is the case, why was this not as extreme/noticeable with 2.1 as it is with 2.2? What happened to these supposed 400% performance increases? Now a battery that was already horrendous has gotten worse, programs that I haven't even opened continuously need to be force closed, and navigating within the browser is now sluggish.
Thanks, Google!

Because ATK's react to 2.2 differently that's why there is such a fervor. I never have used ATK, and have no want to use it.
And even though I had to do a master reset which totally made my unit useless (OTA Activation would not load my information) until I found all the settings to correct, (with some help also) I am glad I did it as my phone is now running better than it ever has.
I just wish more of the 'techs' on the phone were techs. I would not have had to find out the issues and correct the internal settings myself. But now I know, if I ever need to do it again.

Budone, can you specify which settings you corrected? thanks.

What I had to reenter are areas if you do a Master or Factory reset would be populated. For some reason my phone refuses to do so, thus I had to do it manually.
If you do a master reset and you see a 3G icon and the phone works, you are good to go,

OK thanks. After the reset everything worked ok, except the battery life still sucks. Oh well. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix.

Bottom line is since the update the battery life has tanked significantly, my phone will now randomly jump from screen to screen, and the e-mail will jump all over the place, the internet seems slower (maybe not but seems this way and NOT faster). My weatherbug widget app takes for ever to load when starting up, if it loads at all, and if it does, it is not displaying all the information.
Can you switch back to 2.1?

There is no simple way to go back to 2.1 As for WxBug, have you tried deleting the app and reloading it? Just a thiought.
As I posted elsewhere, as mad as I was to have to do a master reset, it really has improved the phone performance after the update. (After I got the phone working again) Again I HAD to. I don't recommend it just to do.
