option 1

go with apple, and get a plastic phone with no SD card slot, no changeable battery (Apple has even changed the screws on the phone to an exclusive style so *nobody* can open the case besides them), no Flash player, one apps market (granted it's the biggest, but we'll see for how long) that can delete "unapproved" apps from your phone whether you like it or not, and on and on with other issues about Apple being the most control -freakish entity to exist outside of pure facism.

option 2

go with android-based phones, which are numbering in the several of dozens by now from several quality manufacturers in a wide range of prices starting at ***FREE***. You get the phone that fits your lifestyle, a phone that has expandable memory (up to 32G on some), Flash player, traditional access to the battery, a very impressive apps market that has no qualms about 3rd party apps, and is growing to match Apple's volume......

As long as Apple continues to make the same mistakes Henry Ford made with the Model T...(this is the car you get...you get it in black...thank you for your purchase) They will continue to leave themselves open to being overtaken in the free markets of the world where people want options...options that typically don't mean a more expensive purchase.  The lock-in contract with AT&T over the years gave Android all the room they needed (every other carrier....) to gain momentum in taking on the giant fruit.

Now Apple is only on their second incarnation of their ground-breaking phone. Don't get me wrong, Apple had a great idea, and ran with it in a mostly intelligent manner. The branding is what it is, but from where I sit, that's all Apple has anymore...the name.

In my opinion the options are really broken down to these two....

1. get a phone with a partially eaten fruit on the back that makes everyone think you're awesome

2. get a phone that really is a smartphone.

thank you for your attention.

Your Henry Ford (mis)quote was rather on point.  Especially seeing how Apple has failed to deliver the white iphone.  Seriously, how hard can it be to change the color of the plastic?

But really, it's an argument between a few factors:  Do you want some nutbag in California to control 90% of what you do with your phone or do you want something a little more flexible.  I say little more flexible because Android is anything but totally flexible.  You have to root your device if you want to delete crap ware that your service providers force on you.  Some Android handsets can't even get more recent versions of Android (2.1+) because their service providers won't provide it.  At least the iPhone can be updated if you plug it into iTunes and hit update.

So, really, it comes down to what you prefer.  The simple and easy to use iPhone, primarily on AT&T (and soon Verizon) or any number of the varying phones that use Android over many networks.

From a personal stance, I don't hate, nor do I love my DX.  The WiFi issue that still persists is rather annoying (where the DX has difficulty connecting to business/campus networks).  And the, almost, daily reboots irk me.  But, other than that, it is a really nice phone.  I wish the battery would last longer, but that's the price to pay for such a large screen.

You droid fanatics are really funny at most time protecting your purchased goods. And even worst being baited in from a troll that never responded back.

Apple IOS is as smooth as butter with the most intuitive user experience you can have on a phone unlike some other OS's (*cough*cough*android) that just put a bunch of crap together and runs like trash. I have never heard such a high return rate due to the OS confusion of support from either the carrier, google, or the phone manufactures. You guys talking about Android phones having so much more functionality but what good is it when they're not polished that just kills the user experience (flash, poor software opitmization=battery life sucks, sluggish). I know I know, you guys will say something about well Android is so pretty, its customizable and its a opened software....well actually that is the flaw that google have created whom had never grasp the experience in building a software to have it run as smooth as possible with all that running. And good luck on having your phone being supported only to have it replaced by another phone in a month or two. And lets not talk about iphone 4. Looks and build quality already kills anything out in the market. About its IOS...well it can tedious sometimes being a locked software but it just works....And works for everyone and anyone in world who picks it up for the first time. Apple support with its own software and hardware is unmatched well because...both are made by them and are implemented together like wings on planes. Why do you guys think that even the 1st gen. iphone still sell and hold better value then most new phones out there? Its all about user experience. User experience = popularity = loyalty = growth = support = value = tons of apps = tons of accessories. And this is what Apple has learned to become the biggest tech company in the industry.

I don't know. Sounds like battery issues are also a concern with iphone users AND I don't know how "polished" a phone is that "rattles".

Another thing that I can laugh at is my co-worker, he complains the only reason Android is growing in popularity is because they have it on multiple device brands on several carriers and reported that if iPhone did this they would be even more popular :smileysurprised::smileysurprised::smileyvery-happy: ....  And this was his arguement to prove that Android isnt as popular as a iPhone, have you ever heard some of the stranges defense remarks made.....  It reminds me of this video.. :smileyvery-happy:

The only problem with that theory is that the only thing that would change about it is the shape of the phone.  Apple has that thing so locked down it isn't even funny.  There was an article posted on another thread here where somebody from apple even said that the reason they wouldn't allow carriers to add their own apps to the os is because they want all iPhones to look the same.  :smileysurprised:  You can even see this in their new commercial with the Verizon and AT&T iPhones side by side.  I have a feeling that this will either be a bust for Verizon or AT&T is going to lose ALOT of customers.  By now, most people who really want that thing probably have it and only the disenchanted few who have had major problems with their android phones will be moving over to the dark side.  Android is hugely gaining in popularity in the US, while iOS has stayed basically even and RIM has declined.  http://phandroid.com/2011/02/01/latest-nielsen-survey-shows-android/  That shows (to me) that everybody who wants an iPhone has one and, other than the few who absolutely refused to go to AT&T (honestly the reason I didn't go to iPhone when I first got my Eris.  Ah, how my eyes have been opened :smileywink:), I don't think there will be a whole lot of brand new adopters.

Apple IOS is as smooth as butter with the most intuitive user experience you can have on a phone Yeah, some people call it intuitive, some people call it eye-candy for the un-imaginative unlike some other OS's (*cough*cough*android) I thought Mom got you a shot for that cough already?? that just put a bunch of crap together and runs like trash.  I have never heard such a high return rate due to the OS confusion of support from either the carrier, google, or the phone manufactures. Proof, facts, and figures talk, conjecture and **bleep** walk. And yer shoes are wearing thin very quickly. You guys talking about Android phones having so much more functionality but what good is it when they're not polished that just kills the user experience (flash (A bad thing?? Just because Steve Jobs sez so??) , poor software opitmization=battery life sucks, sluggish). You are walking faster I know I know, you guys will say something about well Android is so pretty, its customizable and its a opened software....well actually that is the flaw that google have created whom had never grasp the experience in building a software to have it run as smooth as possible with all that running. And good luck on having your phone being supported only to have it replaced by another phone in a month or two. About the fastest I've ever seen **bleep** run, actually. And lets not talk about iphone 4. Oh, but let's do, since you started this  Looks and build quality already kills anything out in the market. **bleep** and conjecture taking flight at this point....About its IOS...well it can tedious sometimes being a locked software but it just works. That's it. It JUST works. It doesn't spark the imagination, it doesn't offer any variations, But I'll be more open-minded than you have been and offer that it does what it was designed to do very well, even though AT&T was not much help....And works for everyone and anyone in world who picks it up for the first time. Apple support with its own software and hardware is unmatched well because...both are made by them and are implemented together like wings on planes. Why do you guys think that even the 1st gen. iphone still sell and hold better value then most new phones out there? Now, if you had ANY credibility whatsoever at this point, you just utterly lost it. What a complete and total load of crap. I'm not one to directly slag the iPhone (as opposed to slagging some of its fanboyz), but it's a well-documented fact that the 1st generation iPhone was a sorry excuse for a phone.  Even the reviews of it went something like "well, we REALLY want to like the iPhone, buuuut....". The UI was good, but call quality and battery life were terrible, no MMS, no copy & paste. I couldn't even give mine away at the time, finally donating it to a women's shelter. Its all about user experience. User experience = popularity = loyalty = growth = support = value = tons of apps = tons of accessories. And this is what Apple has learned to become the biggest tech company in the industry. To ignore and dismiss the Android system moving forward and gaining popularity every day is to have your head buried in the basement, which leads me to.....

I can't believe Boy Genius Reports let one if its Apple fanboyz out of the basement long enough to come around here and post this. You might not get another chance, especially if Mom finds out.

I just love how someone comes to a forum and post that a product is better then the forum they are in. All these posts are a normal response. With that said, I am a happy X owner. The iphone is not a bad phone and fits the needs of others fine. I believe alot of people seem to see the iphone as a benchmark to what a smartphone should be instead of what a smartphone could be. This is where Android os wins over iphones os as far as customization. I'm not a rooter but still have options to customize my phone and that's the key word, customize. Android just took a different approach then apple and gives us more freedom with our phones then Apple. The one thing to remember is if your happy with your phone Apple or Android then that's all that counts.
