can the incredible be used for wifi for a laptop? is there a way to do that or am i just thinking about what the future holds?

You can, but it will cost you....
I have heard there are ways around Verizons tethering policy, but I dont know if they work on the Incredible (yet).

yes, verizon has tethering options.
