I have two cradles. One at home and one at work.
You can set the screen for daytime or night time. Nightime is significantly darker. After about 10 mins it will go black except for an amber color clock. If you want it totally off just tap the on off button on the side once.
The best part about the dock is the extra battery and charger. When the battery on the phone gets low I just swap the batteries out and I dont have to wait for charge time. The low battery then gets recharged in the dock while i am off with my phone.

It does with the car dock so I would assume the cradle would work the same way. The only issue I have found is that the battery really doesn't charge with the display on....not that it's not capable of it, it just seems the display consumes alot of power so the battery never really has an opportunity to charge.

What is the difference between the desk cradle (or car dock) and having a usb power only or a plain usb connected?
Power only the screen times out and usb connected to my pc the screen times out.

I believe they must use a magnet or something in the cradle that tells the phone it's been docked. I know that's how my corporate blackberry works so it would make sense that this does too.

It must be as I tried the only power option that came with it, the cigarette lighter in my car and it times out.
I was looking at making my own cradle but now I've ordered one.
Thanks,

It does stay on with the Desktop charger. Of course you can turn it off too if you want, but the default is to stay on.
