Have blockbuster app to rent r buy movies on droid x2 i am able to watch movie on phone but then connect phone to tv via hdmi cable tells me due to studio restrictions hdmi out not supported. i try to play movie by clicking on the file not using blockbuster app says can't play file. tried many many video players from the market no luck

They are correct, only Digital Rights Management (DRM) free / unprotected content can be viewed via this method. So files on your device like videos or pictures you've recorded with the device camera/recorder would be the type of files you could view on your external HDMI device using a compatible HDMI cable.
The following file formats are supported.
- H.263
- H.264
- MPEG-4
- WAV
