@jeffmeister,

I understand how difficult it may be to used the phone in the dark and not having the backlight working properly. Have you tried changing the backlight settings as we suggested earlier in the thread? If not, I have provided them below:

There is a setting on the phone called "Brightness" that can be changed. Please follow the steps below.

Menu

Settings

Display

Brightness

Un-check "Auto Brightness"

When un-checking this setting, the brightness of the device will not change when in different environments. This may resolve the issue for you. 

Please try this and post back with your results.

Un-checking auto-brightness has to do with the screen and not the physical keyboard light. It is a (delete content to comply with ) typing with an intermittent keyboard light.
