I am a new user! Is there a simple way to backspace through text to make corections. Trying to place the cursor by touch is difficult.

If you Press and HOLD, a small window pops up allowing you to drag the cursor to the specific point you want to edit it.

If you're using the Swype keyboard, you can also slide your finger from the "swype" symbol (on the bottom left of the keyboard) right to the SYM key. That should pull up a 'cursor' keyboard. To get back to the regular keyboard, simply press the ABC key near the bottom left.

Swype also lets you double tap a word to easily correct it.
