Anyone know of an app or a way to open/save an excel spreadsheet attachment from email then transferring it directly to the computer (Windows OS) in order to open in Excel and edit?  I have DroidX.

The Droid X has QuickOffice preloaded on it. You cannot find it anywhere in the App tray, but it is there. SInce it is a free version, you can only view Office Documents, but the full version is 14.00 in the market.

I have Office 2007 and yes, Quick Office reads that format just fine.

So I can transfer/open the excel spreadsheet on my laptop in excel if the phone is connected with a USB cable?  If thats so, great information and well worth the money.

Download and save the attachment to your SD card. When you plug the X to your computer with the USB cable a USB notification will appear. Pull down the notification bar and tap the USB connection notification. Select USB Mass Storage. Now you will be able to see the X's SD card as a removable disk device on your computer. The downloaded spread sheed will be in the Messaging directory, copy it from there to your computer.

I'm not getting a USB notification nor can I locate USB mass storage.  It simply allows me to open up the Droid X and the only files showing up are music files.  I was able to save the document to my SD card so I know it's there.

It may be that you don't have the drivers installed on your computer. You can get them here - http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/Global_Drivers/USB_Drivers_32_bit_4.6.5.zip
