If you are downloading from a valid source the apk should download and install on its own. It is not wise to install from unknown sources but if you decide to do so but if you choose there is a number of forums on how to do this, simply Google topic.

My previous post was not meant to lecture, I was trying to hint that the subject you are asking about may involve a user to break some of the forum rules to direct you to or answer your question... installing applications from a unverified sources require you to install apps in ways that Verizon doesn't encourage and most likely not allow on their site.  So if you do not want to hear the answer that is given, I suggest you read the forum rules before posting.

Now I say this again, with no disrespect, Google is your friend..

heh..you started the thread, it opened the door.  Any member in this forum has a right to say what they will.  If you cannot handle the heat then you should not be next to the fire.

To get an answer to your question, you may want to look in other forums which might contain info from more tech type individuals.

What everyone is trying to tell you, is that loading a file from a source other than the Marketplace could be dangerous to your data, personal information, and your phone. Someone with bad intentions could really mess things up, and steal your data.

However, Google does provide a way to load and install programs not in the marketplace. However, you do this at your own risk, and it possibly could nullify your warranty on your phone and leave you with a phone that doesn't work, and no warranty to get it replaced. this is a friendly warning, not a lecture.

You need to into the settings menu, then applications. The top item is called 'Unknown Sources'. Tapping that will being up a warning. You have to agree to the warning. After this is set, then you download the apk from either the web browser or through your USB or bluetooth connection to your computer. After the apk is downloaded, then on your phone, go to the apk location and tap it. That should install it.

I would not leave the Unknown Sources checked as a rule. A couple of weeks ago, I was playing a game, when my finger accidental brushed an ad, and downloaded 2 apk's. It was blocked from installing because I did not have that checked. I was able to locate the offending apk and delete it without any harm to my X.

Again, you assume the responsibility for the programs that you install your own phone that are not from the market. Again, this is a friendly warning, not a lecture, and I do not have responsibility for anything that happens to your phone from you loading anything not in the market place by providing these instructions.

Enjoy your phone.
