I just picked up the DROID X a couple of days ago, and am pretty pleased with it's operation.

 

BUT... this is a small piddly little question. When I first got it (2 days ago) there was an icon in the upper left of the screen - what appeared to be a yellow lightbulb. It is missing now. A friend 'played' with it to 'show me some features' (she has another DROID of some sort) and it is now gone. Of course, "she didn't do it", but now it is gone.

 

Can anyone tell me what it was, what it did, and, perhaps, how to find it again?

Thanks... but it wasn't a torch/ flashlight. 

I'm thinking it had something to do with a task-kill function - the phone came with a task manager installed, but it seems to be working differently now... 

Life goes on.

The stock task manager does not have a widget as far as I know, have you tried pressing on desktop and select widgets and see if any have the icon you are looking for?

Yup... I've tried and ran most all the programs... tis a mystery. 

An interesting development is that my friend how has the same lightbulb on her phone ... and she can't remember what she did to get it - or when it showed up. I think she sucked it off my phone and put it on hers... :smileytongue:

I think I figured out what the icon is that you are asking about....  From description and location I believe you are thinking about the download icon...

Alas, but no... my yellow lightbulb (a figment of my imagination???) is (was?) not the same as the download icon - which is green.

 

I appreciate your attempts.... someday I will find out what it is (was). Like I said before, I'm not going to lose sleep over this or obsess about it. I stopped in two verizon stores and neither had a yellow lightbulb on any of their DROID X phones. I now have a purpose in life... either that or I'm getting sick of the snow and cold and need a new diversion.

Look like I overlook the yellow part...  And now that I think about it I do not remember ever seeing and stock icons being yellow, the image I posted was from the manual that explained all icons on device, this means that it will have to be a 3rd party app..

 

Since you said your friend is showing icon, they should be able to pull done status bar and there would be information on the icon or you can go to Settings / Applications / Running Services.
