I have used RingDroid to create ringtones. You can either record a ringtone or make music as a ringtone.

If you already have some ringtones, you can actually get the app called Ringo Lite. Works fantastic. It's free in the market. You can assign contacts each a different call ringtone & text ringtone.

open the individual contact you want, then go to edit.  scroll down to additional info and open.  then srcoll down to the bottom and there is an option to set the ringtone

What if I am wanting to assign a ringtone I purchased from Verizon to all of my calls rather than specific people? I haven't found the option for either. I received the text after purchasing the ringtone but haven't found a way to move it to my ringtones and it's not already in my ringtones. It's just 'stuck' in my texts.

You will have to save the ringtone from the text message into the phone's memory.  Then you will have to search thru the ringtone list to find it and assign it to your ringtone.  If you have any contacts with individual ringtones, you will have to change them to have a single ringtone for everyone.

I appreciate your quick reply. :smileyhappy:

When I hold down on the text (like the directions said) it gives me 4 options and 'save' is not one of them.  I have "open message", "play audio", "view message details" and "delete message". I have gone to each one with no luck finding anywhere that would give me the option of saving. Any other suggestions? TIA!

I don't have my droid X in hand yet, just to test ringtones find a free ringtone site with small ringtones such as you would find if you googled:  Free my tiny ringtone.  It will be the first search option.  Try to send yourself a random ringtone and see if it gives you any different options.  It's possible the VZW ringtone you ordered is not in a compatible format for your device.

Edit: just for kicks, try the "play audio" option, then look for a menu tab or such while that audio file is opened.

Ok I think I have figured it out.  You can't use certain ringtones, you have to actually download them from either the vzw store or someplace in the Droid Market, because it places them in your ringtone category.  You can't save them from text messages or something like that.  If you can I haven't figured out the way to do it!  Hope this helps
