invalid server certificate yahoo mail

droid x ver 2.3.3 when using yahoomail i sometimes get invalid server certificate. i delete account reinstall and its a crap shoot if it will work.sometimes i get certificate from the server is not validated.really getting to be a pain as this as been going on for months.

Had the same thing happen with Hotmail from day one with this phone, through two replacement phones, Froyo and GB, multiple resets and re-installing Hotmail. Happens a few times a week. I notice that some emails (presumably those that were kicked back due the certificate) are in my inbox when I check Hotmail on my computer and not on my phone.

I have no ideas, just letting you know the same thing happens with Hotmail and it's another of the little "quirks" of this phone that is what it is.

I've been having the same problem since yesterday morning (10/4/2011).  Still having it now. Is this happening to anyone else?

I worked around the Hotmail thing by going into Hotmail options > forwarding email, and just forward my Hotmail to my pphones gmail account. Works great, don't know if Yahoo allows this.

Hi Johniii, 

Your posting shows you have Gingerbread on your Droid X. I do understand that getting this error is frustrating.

I noticed that the incoming/outgoing server settings for Gingerbread have "verify certificate" defaulted to checked. Try un-checking that setting in the account setup to see if that resolves the issue for you. Below I have listed the steps for you. 

Menu

Settings

Accounts

Select Yahoo account

Click Incoming Server

Un-check "Verify Certificate" box

Press OK when confirmation screen comes up

Please post back with your results.

I have the same problem (invalid server certificate) and the solution you suggest sounds good--but I can't figure out how to follow it. When I select the Yahoo account there is no option to select the incoming server. I see: username; password; account name; real name; and the emails and contacts that are synced. There are no other options and selecting menu doesn't offer more. I removed the account and reinstalled it, but that didn't help.

Any additional advice you might suggest would be appreciated.

After the Gingerbread update, I was never able to get my Hotmail to re-sync.  Always got an "Invalid Certificate" message.  Tried re-boot, battery pull, soft re-boot  (I was not willing to do a factory re-set).  Just gave up.   Intermittently had the problem with Yahoo.  Almost gave up, but last time I deleted and re-added the account, it seemed to do the trick, for a month or so.

Lost it again yesterday, with the invalid certificate message.  Seems others did as well (yesterday), which may suggest the derivation of the problem is not with the users.

Following the suggestion here, I tried to perform an "uncheck" of the "verify certificate," but I also do not see that anywhere.

Pretty frustrating to not be able to sync all accounts, and have to periodically deal with this problem, following the Gingerbread update.

OK - here ya go.

Three steps.

First, go to your e-mail accounts and delete the Yahoo account.

Second, perform a cache clean with the follwoing steps (nothing problematic will happen to your phone or settings)

1. Power off

2. While holding down the "home" button, power on

3. "Andy" and an exclamation point will appear

4. Press both volume keys at the same time (menu will appear)

5.  Using your volme key, scroll down to the "wipe cache" option

6. When finished, scroll down to "re-boot" option.

Third, re-add your Yahoo account.

Voila!!!  (just did all this, and it worked fine for me)

Maybe its like the situation when I kept having it happen, Yahoo was updating the server in the area that constantly caused this issue, as soon as they got all updates completed the issue stoped..  Maybe they are updating in your areas now..

Yes, I have seen that happen in the past.  All of a sudden, it's working fine.  In my experience this time aroubd, the difficulty has been exacerbated by a constant search to sync, and the same "new message" (although it's old) popping up, then disappearing in a never ending battery draining loop.

In the meantime, let's hope your theory is "spot on." and that this is temporary.

So far this morning, Wildman, it looks like your thinking that the Yahoo problem being temporary because of work Yahoo was doing may be the answer.  Yahoo seems to be back on track this AM.

Being optimistic, I tried to re-load Hotmail, but it did the same thing as in the past - took very old messages, gave them a future date (2012), and thus inhibited new 2011 messages from showing up.  Too bad.  

Droidsw, thanks for your suggesting about forwarding Hotmail mail.  I'd been using the browser function to get in, but that's a great idea.

Note: there is no place on Gingerbread to check a box (or to uncheck a box) re certificates.

There is indeed a place to check/uncheck for certificates for POP accounts (like hotmail), but I don't know about Yahoo accounts.  Is Yahoo a POP account?

For POP accounts, do the following;

-My Accounts

-select the account (xxx@hotmail,com)

-select Incoming Server

-select Advanced settings

-check or uncheck boxes for "Use secure connection" and "Verify Certificate"

-go back 2 steps, and do the same for Outgoing Server

Those optons don't exist for YAHOO email.
