Ok Tidbits, Your reply to my post implies that I have no choice other than Verizon. I have already begun to look for alternate providers and I have at the minimum a 2 yr wait for my other contracts to be fulfilled. A lot can change in the marketplace in two years could be for me or against me. My bet, for me. I will never forget this and fully intend to move on from Verizon. I hope that all grandfathered consumers abandon the business practices of this company.... but hey that's only my opinion....and my money...ill spend it where I choose...I just choose customer service over customer abandonment.

You didn't read what I said.  I said SPRINT not Verizon was your only option to get unlimited data while on contract.  Sorry if you skimmed things over without actually reading.

You already knew what you were going to hear, and you knew you weren't going to like it. They aren't alienating anyone, but just not offering that plan anymore. You can keep it as long as you'd like, but under new contract guidelines, the unlimited data plan isn't offered.

As previously mentioned, they're not going to make an exception for you, but tell everyone else with unlimited data to hit the road. They want the unlimited plan gone, and if that means losing you as a customer, they'll take it.

Vio. They want you to leave. You leave the actually win. There are people with unlimited right now, enjoying 40+mbs speeds with unlimited 4g. You have it. Right now.  You lose this you'll regret it. Trust me. There is nothing faster out there. All you have to do is buy phones new. Like everyone else on the world. Only the USA is conditioned to buying phones on contract. On Europe people buy phones full price or used for cheap. Same as in many other countries. You leave Verizon you'll be doing them a favor. They want people off the unlimited because it's never coming back. But legally they can't do anything to take you off of it. They can only hope you'll get mad and bail. Mission accomplished. I have friends going over 60gb a month on their unlimited. They can do it legally. You won't find performance and speed like that on sprint.  Don't be a fool. When you go 4g you'll be going waaay over 4gb a month. Trust me.

I Was in a Vzw store yesterday, to get a new phone for my son on our plan, he's already down to the 2gb data plan. my husband and I have unlimited, my husband paid full price over a year ago for his phone and kept data. The guy in the store told me no matter what if we get new phones we will lose our unlimited, even if we pay full price.  is he correct?

No he's not correct, he's probably trying to get you to go to a non unlimited plan.. the one to ask,  if  it's true or not at your local store is the Store Manager.)  But if that option goes it will be or should be top news and I haven't seen nothing yet from Droid Life or Android Central and those 2 places would make sure one's no about it..

Is this a new rule...or a rule not previously enforced because I have had unlitimited data with verizon for many years n and upgraded after 3 or 4 two year contracts without any issues.  This time they tell me I will lose my unlimited.  I don't understand.  When I called customer service they told me sometimes there computer lets you and sometimes it removes it...for whatever reason sometimes the computer doesn't catch it.  You can't do business like that.

Been that way for the past 2 years or so. If you want to keep unlimited you have to buy your device outright.

Can I live without a data plan, entirely?  As an experiment, I've turned my Cellular Data "off" and access the web only when I have WiFi.  There have been very few times when I've been tempted to turn it back on again, such as when I'm on a trip and need directions (easily taken care of by being more thoughtful).  Otherwise, I can wait and just use WiFi.  So the next question is: why pay for something I don't seem to need?  When my contract (indenture) is up in June, I'm planning to go with a company that offers a smart phone w/o Cellular Data -- and passes the savings on to me.  Currently Verizon is not that company, according to their salesperson.
