my phone says that I am low on space when I am only using 150 MB and I still have 600 MB of free space. When I get near 200 MB, it says that I do not have enough free space and need to delete apps in order to receive text messages even though I am only using less than half of the storage space. Why does this continue to be a problem? Its becoming an inconvenience...

Man, this is a brutal bug that just keeps nagging. I wasn't getting the Low On Space warnings there for a few weeks. But starting a day or two ago they are back.
I've cleared caches, moved as much as I can to the SD card. WTF?

This low space thing has happened 3 times over the 1 1/2 yrs I've had the incredible. The 1st 2 times, I've done a factory reset. What a pain. It does temporarily solve the problem but it comes back. It has come back a 3rd time now and I have at least half of my memory free. I'm not doing a factory reset. Not again. So far everything is working so ill deal with the little icon. But, it is really annoying. I've cleared / deleted everything I can except the pictures & videos. That I will be doing tomorrow. Ugh. I don't know what to do anymore. Help.

I have been having the exact same issue; I have over 600 MB of free data space, yet I consistently get notifications that I have low disk space. I don't have any applications downloaded either. I took my phone into a store yesterday and the guy helping me messed around with my phone completely wiping the data from it and then said, "I don't know what happened; we can't help you." He offered me no apology, no assistance, no answers. Extremely irritated. And Verizon can apparently offer no help whatsoever.

I've had this happen twice. The way I 'fixed' it was to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. I then opened each application and did a 'force stop' and 'clear cache' on the unimportant applications that were running. After I did this to the first 5 or 6 applications, the error message instantly went away. Not a perfect solution but it got rid of the annoying notification and the apps seem to run just fine. No gurantee that it will work for you but it did for me - twice.

Hi All, read the following that I've cut-and-pasted from another forum page (it worked for me, whooo-hooo):
okay- so... if you go to settings, about phone and click software- if your version is the 4.06, it's NOT up to date (even if your phone says it is)....
there is a 4.08 version that a lot of us have been trying and trying and trying to get to upload.
i have literally done EVERYTHING listed in these and other forums (including the reboot, the setting the date forward one month to one year) except what i finally did today- and it not only uploaded the 4.08 software, but it INSTALLED it as well (which was the main problem to being with. i could download the update, but it would either get stuck on the install/reboot page and never move from there, or the ONE time it actually did shut the phone down and restart, it said i didn't have enough space to install the update)! woo hoo!!!!
i looked at all of my downloaded apps, and then sorted them by size. i uninstalled the 8 biggest applications (twitter, facebook, movies, slacker, maps, i heart radio, etc) and then i restarted my phone. eventually, it downloaded the 4.08 update and i got the "install now" "install later" button... i hit install now and it really did reboot my phone! it also installed it. it took a bit of time, but it was doing things it had never done the past couple of weeks! so i knew it was actually working! woooo hooo!!!!
i reinstalled all of my uninstalled applications and they're fine. plenty of room on the phone, no issues there *knock on wood*.
and then all at once, i sat back and listened to 38 text messages come in (i stopped getting texts at some point thursday night)....
the low space icon is GONE! there is a new space thing in the settings- sd card & phone- called data settings (the one everyone keeps talking about that has virtually no memory/space)...
the only issue that i can see as of now- is that all of my photo's have disappeared. the ones on the phone as well as the sd card. my photo album shows 0 pictures.
and so yeah... to everyone, i recommend uninstalling some applications and then trying to get the new 4.08 to download and install. if your phone gets stuck and never reboots- download a few more apps. that is what i did until it freaking worked.
good luck.
now off to find my freaking pictures!

I constantly have low storage icon up on my Incredible. 3/4 of the memory is empty and its still there. It locks up constantly, so I have to pull the battery 6 or 7 times a day. This phone is a piece of crap and I will NEVER buy another HTC product. I took it to Verizon store and done the full restore several times. The software updates made it even worse. I have to be within 4 miles of a tower to be able to make a call. Come June I am getting an Apple. (My Apple computer fixed all my constant PC problems.) It sucks that I have to wait for Verizon to allow me a discount when the phone they sold me is crap.

I've gotten the low storage space icon a couple of times. My phone still.worked so I.didn't do anything. The 3rd time (last week), I got the low storage AND memory full icons. Now, my phone isn't working right. The more apps, pics, videos, ect, I deleted, the less memory my phone said it had. I got a level 2 tech on the phone that put it to me straight. There is a software problem that makes the phone forget how much memory it has you have to do a factory reset to fix it. I didn't want to do it but I had no choice. Now my phone works as new. Contacts, calendar were re synced without a problem. I just had to download the apps and reset some settings. We shouldn't have to go through all this but when your phone acts up, just do it and get it over with it. It's the only way and I've tried everything. Good luck all.

I actually did not lose my contacts or any other data except that which I purposely deleted. My wife lost her contacts shortly after she got her phone but luckily it was not a lot. We solved the problem by getting her on backup.assistant. I also store all my pictures, videos and music on my sd card. I will say that the process I detailed below will not permanently eliminate the low memory problem. I just helps for a little while. I can usually go for several days if not a couple of weeks before I have to repeat the procedure. Now my wife has never had the problem but she does not have as many memory intensive apps as I do.

I have had my phone over the 20 months now (just waiting for iPhone5 to come out). I too have had the memory issue. One fix that seems to make it happy every few weeks is to go through and clear your data out of Facebook (one of the largest apps I have on my phone). It loves to store a lot of data (the app is almost 10m and it will eat data quite quick-usually to about 10m before it tells me I have no more space). Every time I clear the data the notification goes away (instantly I might add). Also, make sure you push what you can to the sd card, I too get annoyed with it. Though I might add that not all have had this issue as my wife's has never gotten this notification.
