I have down loaded handcent sms and I like it alot but I have to select it from apps to use it and when I return home and then open messaging again its back to default messaging...how can I make it be the default message service
You have to remove link to stock from desktop and add the one for handsent because it does not replace default app.... If you click stock icon you get stock, if you click handcent icon Handcent will open.

It sounds like you have "batch mode" selected. When at your inbox, press the menu button then select "cancel batch mode". That should take care of it.
