when I use the navagation on my droid X it does not tell me the directions. I've check the volume its all the way up, I've tried to find settings, no luck there. Help I can't drive and watch my phone all the time for directions. My husband has the same phone, and his is fine. We have compared the phone and can't find anything that is different.

I use a Jabra sp700 which allows you to channel the navigation voice through your vehicles FM radio. Then you can set the volumn as loud as you want. (I'm sure louder than you would ever want) Also then when you make or receive calls on your phone, it's real easy to hear the other person.

Please ensure that you have the latest update for the Google Maps installed on your phone. You can download the latest update if you access the Android Market on your phone and enter Google Maps on the search field.

I think the google maps uses media volume. Make sure it's up.
I use Android Assistant under tools/volume control.

I have the same problem on my Moto Droid. Used to work great all the time but stopped working last week. I am a tech guy and all settings are correct. What's changed recently is that the 3G signal strength has been really poor. Coincidently I have my phone paired to Ford SYNC and the directions feature can no longer find my location. After talking to Ford and reading all the forums I believe the root cause is that the quality of Verizons 3G network has degraded in areas that used to work fine.

You might try Menu / Settings / Sound and see if Silent mode is checked.
but more likely you have Mute selected in the Nav screenl.
