after being a verizon customer for over 10 years and paying them more then 200.00 a month, I went in yesterday to upgrade my DroidX to an Iphone and discovered that I can either pay Retail for the IPhone and stay on my current plan or get a subsidized phone for 199.00 and pick a new plan with no unlimited data, and what looked like an increase in the data for a limit of 2g. We have a family plan and 3 smart phones and really don't use a lot of data so I don't think it's my family that's draining them dry, but I'm the one getting (you know what). I can't wait to jump on that class action law suit that's coming. And as the phone contracts run out so will we be running to anyone other then Verizon.

Someone else posted in another thread that when they went online with the MyVerizon account and went to do their subsidized upgrade, the option to have Inlimited data was available to select. I don't know if he completed it or not, so I am not sure if it would have gone through or not, but it is worth a try.
Have you looked online?

I believe that was me, and yes it did go through. After reading many posts regarding this issue, I have become aware that there is a lot of misinformation on the forum. As a result I think that many people are confused about what services are available. One thing I will note is that the new "Share Everything" plans do not give you the option to keep unlimited data. I was given the option to upgrade phones at a subsidized price while staying on my current call/text plan and also was given the option to keep unlimited data.
EDIT: I have had discussions with other members here on the forums regarding this. But going back I am not able to find any of what was posted. I'm beginning to think there is some kind of conspiracy. I wouldn't be surprised if you read this and sometime later you can't find it.

After seeing this post I went back in and ordered my new phone online my droidx had lost its 3G and more. I ordered the iphone4s and was able to keep my plan and pay the usual 199. I even got their customer service bot on the pc and verified that I was keeping my old unlimited data plan. when I asked about being told differently in the store the answer was that the stores don't have the same offers as online shopping. Okay.... At least I have my phone coming soon but very strange.

That's great to hear. Over the years I have been duped many times by sales people. By the time cell phones came aroud I was a bit older and much wiser. Cell phone service and equipt is expensive and up there with automobiles. Walking into a Verizon store and saying I want that phone is like waling on to a car lot and saying the same thing. I may not always get the best deals but I do take the time to shop around for the best price. This time it just so happened that verizons online service happened to be the best deal. IMO, I don't believe there is a glitch with the system but rather it's just as the "bot" told you.
Cheers

Probably ordered the GSIII. For some reason the iconic portal is still being used and allowing people to choose old plans. Pick any other phone and the option likely isn't there.

I have begun the process without completing for upgrading my line after June 28 to see what options I had and to understand the new reality of plans. I had never tried to "upgrade" to a Galaxy S III phone until tonight. The iconic portal (old pre-order screens) did let let me keep both my grandfathered text plan and the unlimited data plan. If I tired the upgrade with Droid 4 or Razr Maxx, the order process made me stop and chose the tiered data plans. Looks like the webmasters have some work ahead of them to change it to match the rest of the site.

yeah, funny thing is that as long as you select the GSIII on the initial screen, you can select any phone and it still gives access to the old plans even for new customers. Someone definitely goofed.

I think there is some confusion on these unlimited data plans. Sales and marketing material always involve phsychological tricks to change the audiences perception of an idea. I keep reading over and over how Verizon can and will take unlimted data away from every customer. I'm not denying that they CAN take it away at any time. I don't believe it is their intention to take the option away but rather to convince consumers to mover to the new "share everything" plans or to tiered data so as to increase profits.

The order pages for the Galaxy S3 are wrong. It clearly states on the Share Everything plans landing page that the customers with the unlimited data plan can't keep that plan when they upgrade.
Why don't you do your own research?

I didn't order the GS3. After selecting the phones I was given a choice of data plans; share everything, tiered, and unlimited. There was a note that if I changed my data plan I would not be able to change it back at a later date. So the obvious choice was unlimited as both the tiered and share plan would have cost more overall.
I have been doing my own research. That is reason I came here on the forum. I have read many post's and statements about unlimited data plans going away but nothing from anyone with firsthand experience.

I've seen quite a few cases of both over on Android Central related to GSIII purchases. Some purchased in store and were able to keep it while others were required to choose a tiered data package. What plan do you have and what phone were you selecting?

I have the Nationwide 700 shared minutes / unlimited txt. The phones selected were both 4G, a razr and an LG. With so many choices it took me a while to decide. So in the process I has several other phone selected and then changed prior to checkout. It appeared to me that it didn't matter which phone was selected, the same options for data were available.

Even if I don't upgrade and just go to change my plan, I get the notification that a feature on my plan (the unlimited data plan) is no longer available. The unlimited data plan is gone for upgrades.

Ann, I ordered my GS3 before June 28 and bought it at the subsidized rate and kept my unlimited plan. The paperwork that came with the phone said "unlimited" data.
However, a few days later I received a strange e-mail from Verizon suggesting I go online and review "changes" to my data plan. I did. It said "2GB".
I called Verizon. The Verizon rep reviewed my order date and corrected my account back to unlimited. The rep said it might have been a problem with the website.

That's strange that it would change like that since you pre-ordered before the deadline of June 28. It is good that the rep was able to restore the data plan to what you ordered it under.

No GS3. I used the MyVerizon login on the main verizon wireless site. Not sure what you are refering to as the iconic portal. Care to elaborate?

Good luck on that. Make sure you get a contract lawyer, and not some run of the mill freshly graduated from college.

I won't bother with that but somewhere down the line someone's going to call them on unfair business practices, and I'll take my .12 and smile. If they can stick it to the yogurt and utility companies they'll call them on this.
