phone freezes up and screen goes blank

I am on my third replacement phone. recently my screen goes blank when you hit the home button, when trying to answer calls or text messages it freezes on the screen and there is nothing you can do besides to remove the battery...what can i do...it has not gotten wet or been dropped.. can someone please help
