problem with voice command

I have two droid xs that i just purchased at the same time.  The voice command on one of them doesn't seem to operate correctly.  For example when I say, "send text to John what are you doing?" the one phone will show: To: John Message: What are you doing?, but the one that isn't working properly will show: To:____Message: John what are you doing.  I don't know if there is a way I can uninstall the voice command app that came with the phone and reinstall it somehow, or if there is some sort of update, or does the phone have something physically wrong with it.

Check mic settings and make sure the mic on one isnt turned down, as for removing check under Settings > Applications > Manage Application and look for app and see if the uninstall option is there but I believe this one cant be removed.   Have you tried Vlingo, I perfer it over the stock app.

Is it possible that you did the voice adaptation on one but not the other? Open the voice command app hit menu - settings - adaptation.

You do realize that the Google Voice app is the one that handles text messages and emails and I have never found this option to train the app and it works perfect.  Are you sure that option is in Google Voice...  Which voice app are you speaking of because there is more than one on the device?

My Google Voice options only show...

My bad...it is the app when you hold down the magnify glass, I think it is "voice search" through google.  That is when I'm experiencing this issue.

No problem and no disrespect to pool_shark  suggestion but I just wanted to make sure we was talking about the same app...  The one through the search button on front is Google Search.   Here is something to consider, are you setting the device on a table or something or are you holding it in your hands when you run the test because if you are covering one mic in a way that the device has issue hearing you this issue can happen, plus the voice dial isn't perfect but you have to speak very clear for it to get you perfect under some type of noisy environments.

It took me a minute but after using a WM voice dial app for a number of years (And dont compare to Google Search) it didnt take long for me to figure out the tricks of getting it to work well.

1. Speak Clear

2. Try to use in minimal noise types of environments

3. Keep device at a workable distant..  (Don't have to hold to face but do not have sitting in seat next to you when using)

4. Make sure you have a good data connection because application receives data from web to function.

Usually if you follow these rules you will have better luck.

is this why the voice command will not function if I am away from the wifi???

I thought it worked anywhere as an on board app and text message feature???
