it depends on how old and what type of phone your old one is. if it has a asb cable and can be recognized by your pc then you can copy and paste the folder with the tones on your old phone to your pc. then you copy and paste the tones you want from that folder on your pc to the folder that stores your tones on the new phone. the more recent phones can be recognized by pc's as external hard drive type of devices. if your old phone is too old and the pc won't recognize it then you can try a ringtone app (i use zedge...from the droid market) and search for the tone you want. may take a while as these apps have tons of tones to search through.

Log into your Verizon account. There is a section there called "Media Retrieval" Use that. Click on which ones you want to retrieve and hit accept. Sometimes they recharge you for it, Sometimes they don't. If they do just called customer service and they will credit you. After you accept they will immediately start texting the ringtones to your phone, All done!

i believe media retrieval is only for replacement phones. if it's a new phone, then i think you can retrieve the media, but you still have to pay for it. but it would be worth trying to get them to do it for free.

Get a ringtone app like Ringdroid and make your own....

You can make your personal media files sound like a paid for version of a ringtone... If not better!

True. With ringdroid the person could always record the ringtones from their other phone. Just put the other phone close to the droid and record.

Thanks dabubbakin and TheGreatOne. I'm new to my Eris so please take me step by step through recording ringtones from my old non-USB phone. Do I need an app for that or is it already part of the phone?

Download the app Ringdroid first in the market. Press "record new" and pull out your old phone. Put the phone close to your Eris. Play the ringtone on your old phone and quickly press the record button on your Eris (it is right next to the play button).  Once the ringtone is not playing just press the stop button.
