ok so i currently am in canada for a few days i have the normal us plan....450 with unlimited data and text. my phone is the droid x2....i for one am supposed to have service thru canadas carriers but nothing works....cant send or receive text etc....i also dont wnat the extra charges for any of these especially data.....i have wifi turned on and running off that and its on airplane mode....now when i use the internet on the wifi thru my phone am i using data that will be charged to my acct.....last company i was with (tmobile) i used the data not realizing and ended up with a $600 data charge bill....please any info will help...the guy at verizon store said to run off wifi with airplane mode on to run "viber" (free sms and call app) but was wondering about the data part...the only way to stay in touch with friends is facebook msg....but i dont wanna do it if im gonna get a big **bleep** bill....im also currently recently unemployed....

Go to menu>settings>wireless & networks, and make sure mobile data is turned off (or airplane mode, if you don't want phone calls and texts), and wifi is on, and you won't have to worry. No data that is used through wifi will be charged to your acct.

Your phone should be able to make/receive call and text messages in Canada. Please note that your phone will not be able to make/receive calls over a wireless network when set to Airplane Mode (as it is according to your post). You will not able to call/text with current setting. Please keep in mind that if you change settings (disable Airplane Mode) to be able to make/receive calls/text over wireless network you will be billed as follows:
Calls $0.69
Data $2.05/MB
Text messages are billed at your domestic rate while in Canada. Since you have unlimited messages you will not be billed for text messages.
You will not incur any data charges while using WiFi to access data features and applications on your phone. Please note that Verizon Wireless does not support/recommend any third party applications and any issues with viber or any other third party Application should be addressed directly with the developer.
