I'm having major issues trying to take screenshots with my DX.
I've downloaded Android SDK to my Windows PC, the correct Java kit, and the Moto drivers straight from the Moto site.
Everytime I go into the SDK folder and then Tools, when I try to open the ddms file, a command box pops up, and goes away faster than I can see what it says. I have been able to see that it says WARNING, that's all I can read.
My phone is not rooted, and I am not going to root it to use the screenshot apps that are available. Does anyone know how to fix this so I can get SDK to work properly on my computer?

I did make sure to download all the correct files for my computer.
I'm stumped. I'm about ready to give up, I guess this software just does not work for my computer.
Sorry the picture is transparent, it was VERY hard to get a screenshot in the millisecond that box popped up.
I think you have just identified you bug.... I am guessing you have 64 bit Windows 7 and the solution to this is to install the x64 and the x32 bit Java package because the SDK looks for the 32 bit build automatically but needs the x64 build to work, this is what I had to do to get mine to work because just changing directory didnt always work...
Please give it a try and post back if it helps...

May be something went wrong in the set up process, this should help you out. It doesn't involve rooting and should fix your issue.

Here is a few things to use to troubleshoot your issue...
1. Have you check the drivers list of the system and make sure all drivers are showing installed correctly?
2. Did you donwload the latest driver from the link I gave you?
3. Are you using the Original USB Cable also plugin the cable in the primary usb ports (Usually the Back Connections)
4. Did you enable debugging?
5. Do you have cable setting on CHARGE ONLY?

4. Did you enable debugging? Yep
5. Do you have cable setting on CHARGE ONLY? I think so... How would I go about checking that?
Thanks for taking the time to walk me through this! I was hoping you'd reply to this post
Thanks, JaySean, for that link, I'll give it a try as well!

After three days of on again off again to try and get every thing loaded right, I finally made a proper screen shot on the Thunderbolt. Thanks, Wildman for the link and help you gave me. I will have to test on the Eris next.

Well I am a female and that Droid-Life color scheme just really appealled to me. I love how I can install these themes just like an apk file and no tomfoolery/dental trips needed.
Using the "other" method, I got this screen shot off my Eris this morning too.

Look like you got SDK down, glad you up and running and I am just waiting for update date, Ill be right on your coat tails... The TB just is becoming more and more appealing... HTC has always been the device I perferred.
I have been working on a method to edit the Bootscreen of HTC also without voiding warranty, Im getting there, I think users would like this. TB locked down a bit more than normal that make method different.

No, No! The Eris had been tweaked and took a trip for some FroYo (still needs Ginger ) a while back. I had to use an app for "special" phones to get the screen shot for the Eris.

Apparently the Eris is showing it age. The cable and charging port connection had to be postitioned just so it would stay connected to the computer. A micro sd card case came in handy. I finally got it to work.

Well, I tried it again and got the same result. Turns out I didn't have "Charge Only" selected, but I did select it and did everything else as you guys told me to, and I still got the WARNING command box that pops up for a second and goes away.
I really don't have any idea what I'm doing wrong with this.
It took me over a week to get BitPim to work on my computer correctly, as well - also following all procedures correctly.

That is a strange one, I will see if I can get one of my devices to duplicate this issue later on, hopefully the issue can be traced down..
UPDATE: I remember seeing some users reported that they couldnt get the SDK to connect properly until they plugged in the device to pc and selected every option from pull down list and allowed drivers to be installed for those functions, the system does not install all drivers for the device until the option is accessed... Give that a try and then go back to Charge Only after all drivers install correctly.
Not sure if this will work but it is worth a try.
This also may sound like a strange question but I am wondering, did you make sure to download the build for your version of windows becasue there is a Android, MAC and Windows version on DL and also are you running a x64 version, there is a spacific version for this also listed... Just a thought.

I managed to get a screenshot of my computer when the command box opens up, and I'll see if I can post it here...
It says something about not being able to find the proper Java kits, even though I downloaded the correct one for my computer directly from the link given on BOTH of the Android Screenshot tutorials you and JaySean gave me. I even tried downloading other versions to see if that would make it work, but nope. I even copied the java files to my Program Files on my computer, that didn't work either.
I did make sure to download all the correct files for my computer.
I'm stumped. I'm about ready to give up, I guess this software just does not work for my computer.
Sorry the picture is transparent, it was VERY hard to get a screenshot in the millisecond that box popped up.

I was getting Java folder path errors as well. I don't know if they are the same as yours (can't see the pic yet). I even tried to follow the instructions my dialog box was giving, but this win7 stuff is still an uphill battle for me. I found the location where the computer wanted the path added and got stuck. For some reason the error went away. I hope it stay away too. If not I will post a screen shot here. Maybe we will all learn something from this experience. Heck it took me 18 months since getting the Eris to create an official screen shot from it using the official method!

Thanks droidsw,
I did have three android "babies" for a while. Sadly one had to go back (The HTC Aria in the middle). The network behind it was completely lacking. From the day I brought the Tbolt home.
