HI. i'm totally new to the whole android operating system. i got my phone 9/16/10 and unfortunatley i can not send text messages. although if i recieve one i can send one back. my issue lies if i want to text a friend... i have to enter their number [i have alot of friends and am not always near a computer to be able to get that number].

also if i go into my contacts and select that person, it doesn't give the option to be able to text them [the options that come up are to email, delete]

what i want to know is there anyway that i can fix this issue??

Test something.

Pick one contact. Edit it to make sure you have the label as mobile, make sure it only has the 10 digit number, nothing before the area code.

See if you have the option to send a text to that contact.

Yes, you might have them all saved as home numbers, wich sometimes will not let you text them.

Hello srhasse. I understand the issue you are having with not being able to properly send a text message to a contact on your device. You will want to make sure the numbers are set up under Mobile and I will provide you with the steps that will help you with sending a text message.

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Text messaging.
Touch New text message.
From the To field, enter a 10-digit mobile number .
-As the number is entered, a matching contact may appear and can be selected at any time.
- Alternately, touch the contacts icon (located on the right-side of the To field), touch a contact, touch the appropriate mobile number then touch OK.
Repeat this step as necessary to add additional recipients.
To add a subject, touch Menu.
Touch Add subject.
Enter a subject.
Touch Send
