shell/holster combo

Anybody here using the shell/ holster combo with the DX. Looks like it provides good protection. Right now I'm using the silicone case which is fine and also works with the car dock. Now that the weather is changing and jeans are going to be worn most of the time. I'm looking for something with a belt clip, the DX is just a little too big to be comfortable in the pocket. If anyone can give me the rundown how this case works let me know please. will it work in the car dock?

Thanks MTY55

I like this combo just fine.

I had to slighly modify the dock to make the phone fit properly.

The belt clip may look flimsy, but it is the only clip I haven't broken (so far).

Anyone need a shell or two?...:smileyhappy:)

great combo

pros

rugged

backwards case protects screen

rotating belt clip

felty lining on holster for screen

protects camera lens from touching surfaces

fits tight---see cons here

cons

slippery even with the basketweave look it has

no way to to quickly slip out im usually hitting volume keys in the process

fits tight-case doesnt come off easily for a battery pull or sd card management

belt clip has been good so far but doesnt feel very durable

cant insert in to or remove from holster while charging because of usb being behind part of the holster blocks a clean path

anymore questions please ask the more specific the better but so far i love it and dont have to take it off often

It does not fit in the car dock, whether you remove the spacer or not.

It will not work with the extended battery's slightly thicker cover.

In fact, I've got 2 I'm willing to sell for dirt cheap. Only slightly used and in perfect working order. Already broken in, just loose enough to be easy to withdraw the phone from the sled.

Thanks,

i forgot to mention b4 sometimes you have to press the lock button a few times the case sorta is raised about it on my x and they are about the same height so i dont mash it in the first try every time...bugged me at first but like they said worth the money if you can get it cheap do it because it is a little costly for a case/holster..even with my discount i paid 50bucks for this and the car charger with the clear moto logo that turns blue when plugged in and i get 25% off but this combined with my invisible shield means with the way i baby my cell if it screws up on the manufacterer not me lol .....best buy charges 7bucks to put one on by the way which sucks but i always got air bubbles and they have a lifetime warrenty another product worth the money  and it barely changes the feel of the screen.

I have this combo, but as of yet, I am only using the shell.  I thought I would really need the holster, but this phone sits quite nicely in my purse side pocket and is fine on my desk at work, so the holster doesnt seem needed yet.  I did find it a bit tight and hopefully wont have to take the phone out of the shell very often, but it does seem VERY durable, which I what I need the most.

Gerio, How much modification did you have to do to the car dock. I'm probably going to the Verizon store some time today to check them out. I'll look it over see how tight it is and what needs to be modified., I'll the Dremel tool waiting when I get home.

Luv our Dremels!

I trimmed back the bottom front edge that goes against the bottom front edge of the shell. Also on the back side of the cavity that the phone sits in, I trimmed away the 2 little raised-up flats.

And after all of this, I tried the spacer piece that comes with the dock to see if it would still fit properly and it does, mostly. However, I discarded it since I never travel without the phone in its shell.

Good luck,

Thank You very much Gerio. Bought the case today  I did manage to get it to work hap hazardly in the VZ store without the mods. so I figured this should be a piece of cake. Yes it was ground off the two tabs on the back and a little grinding on the front of the car dock. Works like a charm. On another note I do like the shell / holster combo, Just have to get it broke in tough to slide the phone in and out right now.

Thanks again

Happy to help, MT.

I wanted to mention that I learned to use one finger at the exposed bottom edge of the phone, lift it up, and grab the phone as it is lifted out of the holster. This avoids the volume buttons being moved around by pulling the phone up by its sides. And even though ind had mine for several weeks, the shell still fits very tightly.

As for those orphaned shells I mentioned earlier, saints be a-praised, a missing holster turned at my girlfriend's house tonight. Naturally.

Thanks again gerio  Everything is going well, been working the holster over pretty good to and it seems to be slowly loosening up. in a couple days it should be real good. I found out on my own about grabbing it  by the sides and messing with the volume keys. Once it gets a little looser , I probably won't need to grab both sides of the phone.

As far as tthe car dock goes it was back to the dremel tonight. Got it to set in today and went to cardock mode but then I realized it had nothing to do with the usb port  I believe a magnet trips the cardock and navigation modes. What tipped me off I wasn't done is it wouldn't charge when in the car dock. Ground out a little more now it sits down in tight and charges.

Life is getting better and better with my Droid X:smileyhappy:

Thanks
